00:26:48BigBambigevaerts: there?
00:26:53gevaertsBigBambi: yes
00:27:50BigBambiI just wan t to double check what I need to do to the beast to make linux see it (I've been skimming the logs - my parents are visiting, hence lots of beer but little Rockbox time)
00:29:08gevaertsYou have a S60, right ? Same as Nico_P ?
00:29:20BigBambiYep,

00:31:30gevaertsOK. download gevaerts/gigabeat-S-mbr-fixed">http://www.evonet.be/~gevaerts/gigabeat-S-mbr-fixed
00:31:44*petur discovers a channel without nanok :)
00:32:18gevaertsthen plug in the beast and check what device it is...
00:32:49BigBambiOK, I see jhMikeS has commited USB work, so I just need to build that
00:33:21gevaertsBigBambi: there is more. The actual problem is in the partition table, so you need to fix that anyway
00:33:27BigBambiOK
00:34:08BigBambigevaerts: sdb
00:34:14gevaertsSo once you plug it in (ant it is recognized) : dd if=gigabeat-S-mbr-fixed of=/dev/sdb
00:34:15Mouser_Xgevaerts: I realize the fix is a good idea, but since I'm on Windows, I don't have to worry about it for now, right?
00:34:34gevaertsMouser_X: windows seems not to care about this issue
00:34:49BigBambigevaerts: done
00:34:49Mouser_XGood. I'll ignore its existence for the time being then.
00:34:53BigBambireboot?
00:34:57gevaertsBigBambi: now unplug and replug
00:35:22BigBambigevaerts: \ô/
00:35:25BigBambiSuccess!
00:35:39gevaertsgreat :)
00:35:45*BigBambi bows down at gevaerts' feet :)
00:36:02BigBambiThis is fricking awesome
00:36:10gevaertsBigBambi: it just changes two bits
00:36:17BigBambiIs that it?
00:36:33BigBambiSo the S partition table has two bits set wrongly?
00:36:49gevaertsYes. The bootable flag must be 0x00 or 0x80, and the S has 0x01...
00:36:58BigBambiffs
00:37:02gevaerts(and there are two partitions, so that's two bits)
00:37:12BigBambiSo windows is just more lax about it?
00:37:33gevaertsYes. They can afford to be, they only support one or two partition table types
00:37:39peturI still wonder why, never seen it before. maybe a bug in the gigabeat format routine?
00:38:08BigBambiIt's just another symptom of the beast being Windows only
00:38:43peturthat flag only matters when booting, it is ok for an OS to ignore it on normal access
00:38:56gevaertsThat table also isn't meant to be used from a PC, so even if they know it, it's probably not worth fixing for them
00:39:35BigBambiIn other news, along with the parents my c240 arrived today :)
00:39:51Mouser_XAwesome.
00:39:53gevaertsSo which were you happiest about ?
00:40:06BigBambibeast usb by far :)
00:40:07*Mouser_X would be happiest about USB support on the S...
00:40:21*gevaerts meant c240 or parents :)
00:41:22BigBambigevaerts: hehe, In that case, parents. I already have a load of targets, and I haven't seen the folks in ages

01:28:31amiconnWhile cache line length is supposedly 16 bytes, I can only make it crash for one possible alignment in a 32 byte block
01:28:55amiconnThat's why I thought my first fix worked back then

13:00:52amiconnYou can calculate the average freqency from boost ratio

13:04:03 Quit MethoS- (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
13:04:44amiconnOn coldfire we use integer multiples of the base frequency (11,289,600 Hz), so neither 45 MHz (45,158,400 Hz), nor 124MHz (124,185,600 Hz) are exact
13:05:39BuschelI could add a "~" before the MHz :)

13:07:45amiconnaverage_freq = CPUFREQ_NORMAL + (CPUFREQ_MAX - CPUFREQ_NORMAL) * boost_ticks / ticks
13:08:11amiconnSimple as that. The intermediate might need 64 bits though.
13:13:31amiconnIt's not 100% precise either way, because each clock switch takes time (typically 250..500 us on PP, and typically 2ms on coldfire), during which the CPU is running from the base clock (24MHz for PP, 11 MHz for coldfire)

14:17:38bertrikthe problem was in case the plugin exited with an error, it never reached the cpu_boost call but did reach the cpu unboost call, resulting in unboosted playback
14:17:50Nico_Pah, right
14:18:27bertrikby placing the cpu_boost() calls right around the call to main, it's guaranteed to always be boosted/unboosted symmetrically

15:27:10DerPapstjust reinstall
15:27:32gevaertswebguest34: do you have itunes installed ? If so, you might try to restore the ipod first from there. That will get it in a known and consistent state.

20:49:05mib_8x8q8lI was hoping the gbformat would make it go back to factory default, but it didn't. it just erased the drive (fine), but not the rockbox bootloader.

20:56:15mib_8x8q8lI don't see the word emergency anywhere on that page, and the "open it−− Gigabeat Recovery Procedures" aren't applicable because I can access it over USB, my problem is I cannot factory reset it or remove rockbox bootloader.

21:01:03bertrikw1ll14m: if a device sees it's address on the i2c bus, it acknowledges by pulling low the SDA line after seeing the address, your i2c driver should be able to detect this. For testing purpose you can probably just hack one of the debug screens to iterate over all i2c addresses and do a simple i2c read and show the result.
21:01:05mib_8x8q8lthose were erased when I did gbformat.

21:15:45krazykitcorrect.

21:16:54gevaertsjhMikeS: what I see with a tracer is that sometimes that NAK response suddenly doesn't come any more. If that happens too often, the host resets the bus

21:17:38w1ll14mthanx
21:17:41jhMikeShmmm...microseconds you say? without preemptive threads we can't guarantee latencies that would be measure at that magnitude.
21:18:11gevaertsjhMikeS: sure, but the controller handles that. If it doesn't have data yet, it sends a NAK
21:18:41jhMikeSok, so were not in a rush to respond on the SW side. (just ruling this possibility out )
21:18:41*preglow hears preemptive
21:19:02*gevaerts sends preglow back to sleep. Nothing interesting :)
21:19:40*jhMikeS has some other motivations to implement it (like handling critical system tasks in thread context)
21:19:40bertrikw1ll14m: good luck. by the way, I would call i2c_init with the lowest possible speed to make sure that bus speed is not a problem
21:20:38bertrikI think that on the SCSI level, the response times are very long, on the order of seconds or so
21:20:47gevaertsjhMikeS: what I saw in the trace is that the host tries to send a new SCSI command and gets a NAK back. It then switches to PING packets (those basically ask if the device is ready to receive data) and gets NAK back correctly
21:20:50***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
21:21:01bertrikare -> are allowed to be
21:21:31gevaertsAfter a while, (20 PINGs or more), it suddenly doesn't get a NAK back any more. After three of those it gives up

21:26:05saratogaperhaps adding a hub exacerbates some timing issue
21:26:27gevaertsThat's my guess too, but I can't see anything obvious in the trace
21:26:31saratogado USB hubs buffer and retransmit packets or are they pure analog?
21:26:41jhMikeSthe 'beast hardly does anything in ticks and such so interrupt latencies will be very short
21:27:01gevaertsThey buffer and retransmit
21:27:40*gevaerts isn't entirely sure about that...

22:32:32w1ll14mok, then i've said nothing ;)
22:32:52LloreanBut the commit message is a little strange.
22:33:25LloreanIt doesn't say "UMS for the Gigabeat S port" but specifically for the bootloader, and since it's an unreleased port so far, and the UMS makes it much easier on the developers, I was uncertain if it was perhaps enabled for now for their work.
22:33:51gevaertsThose are already defined in config-gigabeat-s.h

22:52:20LloreanjhMikeS: Is there anything special to do to get the UMS-enabled bootloader to work? My S isn't connecting.
22:52:31jhMikeSgevaerts: H10 got a couple "no prime" and one reset. Win2k on that machine doesn't like the partitions either apparently.
22:53:14jhMikeSLlorean: no though the glitch with first connect makes it difficult to use now. You do see "Waiting for USB" right?
22:53:17robin0800how do you make a bootloader in vmware?
22:53:41LloreanjhMikeS: Yes.
22:53:47LloreanjhMikeS: Glitch with first connect?
22:55:07jhMikeSSometimes the first cold plug 1) doesn't connect at all 2) doesn't connect high speed. It appears hardware related since a misconnect in the bootloader will let a connect in the firmware succeed.
22:55:34gevaertsjhMikeS: I think the "no prime" is actually what causes the problem. If you get three in a row, you get a bus reset
