00:05:06LeperkawnDoes anyone have personal experience with the sound quality differences between the ipod's 3.5mm jack and it's line-out port?
00:05:58Leperkawnrephrase: If you do have that experience, is it worth getting an ipod line-out > 3.5 female adapter?
00:08:04scorche|shLeperkawn: well, you are going to need an external amp if you are going to use the line out...

00:09:37LeperkawnIs it required?
00:10:26Hillshumwell if you want to be able to hear the music at any kind of decent volume
00:10:45LeperkawnWhat exactly causes it to get so power hungry?
00:10:59scorche|sheh?
00:11:08Hillshumsaywhat?
00:11:30scorche|shLeperkawn: might want to expand on those pronouns..
00:11:51LeperkawnSorry
00:12:17 Quit domonoky (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
00:12:25LeperkawnI don't fully understand impedance and when amping is needed. What causes this setup to require an amp?
00:12:41LloreanThe fact that the volume is locked at line level, for one.
00:13:26scorche|shthis isnt quite a rockbox topic, but to make this bried, you need an amp so you can adjust the volume...the entire point of a line out is to bypass the internal amp for a cleaner signal (usually)

00:14:11Leperkawnscorche: Sorry, I didn't want to ask about this in -community

01:03:30ednosWhat is the likelihood of rockbox supporting Zune (ever)?
01:04:13gevaertspretty small I guess, but of course you never know
01:04:36Lloreanednos: Nobody's working on it, so odds are very, very, very slim.
01:04:39LeperkawnYou might want to check out (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=6848.0)
01:05:09linuxstbednos: Rockbox is running (in a very basic way, not fully working yet) on the Gigabeat S, which is similar hardware to the Zune. The problem with the Zune is that no-one has cracked the firmware encryption/protection, so we can't run third-party code on it.

08:19:42J-23I'm trying to compile Rockbox with MediaWiki Viewer patch
08:20:10J-23(http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/4755)
08:21:29Bgerhm
08:21:41Bgerare you using a current svn tree?
08:22:13Bgeroh, ok, let me see
08:22:34J-23Yes, I am.
08:28:14amiconnIt's a fundamental bug in that plugin code. It won't compile for sims.
08:28:41J-23But I've tried to compile it for real player and it returned a lot of errors.
08:29:50amiconnThe plugin redefines read() - but that is already redefined for sims as sim_read()
08:30:32J-23hmm, now it builded without errors
08:30:52J-23(for real player, Normal build, target - Sansa c240)
08:30:55amiconnHmm, that's actually enclosed into #ifndef SIMULATOR
08:32:25amiconnStill that code looks rather dirty to me
08:34:25Bgeramiconn what specifically looks dirty to you?
08:35:12Bger(not that i've had a look at the code...)
08:39:44amiconn(1) It includes a .c file from another .c file, and both contain actual code. (2) It redefines read() and write() for targets, but not for sims. That *probably* means that on sims the plugin accesses the file system directly, circumventing the plugin api
08:40:48Bgerthese 2 looks like easily correctable...
08:40:56*J-23 tries to read English Wikibooks from his player
08:42:06J-23It works :)

13:34:04keenoxfor me it's bricked right now... it looks dead :(( and i'm really not into low-level programming
13:35:21ali_asD2 has a different core chip. What value are you using for the first?
13:35:22keenoxthe good thing is that windows sees it in usb mode... but i can't write any firmware with fwdn or tcctool

13:36:01stripwaxso it's not bricked, just need to find a way to recover it. iriver apparently has a recovery program

13:41:36ali_asOr so I assume.
13:41:59stripwaxHang on, I thought you were just trying to unbrick it, but you're desoldering pins on the board?
13:42:02ali_asHave you tried the software stripwax has posted?
13:42:06keenoxstripwax.. i have the fw download tool from iriver... it just copies the firmware on the mp3 player.... right now it doesn't see my player connected
13:42:19stripwaxi thought you said windows showed the player as connected
13:42:33ali_asThe player has bootstrap options on the board.
13:42:51keenoxnot in the normal way... i thing it's the "manufacturing usb mode"
13:43:35keenoxali-as... you can see the NAND pins soldered there
13:43:49keenoxnow they are desoldered
13:44:21keenoxi noticed that this way windows sees the device, but not in the normal way, as a drive
13:44:24ali_asI can, youve checked these with the chip datasheet I assume>

13:45:07keenoxi didn't really find a chip datasheet
13:46:11keenoxi found some schematics of the demo board... that i found with the telechips firmware app on the forums

13:48:15ali_asNot sure there was an 8200 datasheet in that post now I come to look at what I downloaded.

13:48:50keenoxif something is missing i can give it to you... i downloaded them all

15:50:50Horschtas I am definately not old fashioned, gevaerts. I started using rockbox in january :p
15:50:53DrakYeah, I've considered it, but the database seems like it'll only play ALL my music or none of it. I'd like to use playlists, so I could separate my music into things like techno or rock and stuff.
15:51:23Horschtthere's the "genre" view in the database
15:51:31domonokyHorscht: it was in the beginning, but it was renamed to "database" at least in the GUI and docs, (in code its still tagchache)

16:37:39Jessica841kat, is there a reason why no port is being worked on for the gmini?
16:38:03BigBambiBecause no interested owners are doing it
16:38:17Jessica841that makes sense
16:38:23BigBambiPorts are done by owners, there is no rockbox 'team' that works on a port
16:39:06BigBambiBut as I say, I believe ArchOpen does something for the gmini - if you wanted to port Rockbox to them, that would seem a good place to start for infor on hardware, drivers etc
