14:02:31SjanoIs there a way to update rockbox on my ipod? or do i just install the new one over the old? or uninstall the old then install the new one?
14:02:44domonokywpyh: just ask your question... (ipod have two partitions, first firmware, then a fat32 for the data)
14:02:55BigBambiSjano: just extract the new build over the old one
14:03:02BigBambiOr even easier, use rbutil
14:03:04wpyhyes, and I'm asking about the first partition (the fw partition)
14:03:10domonokySjano: just install rockbox again... (no need to install the bootloader again) ..
14:03:19wpyhAs I understand it, there are a few sections in the partition
14:04:16wpyhNow, ipodpatcher patches the firmware partition so that our BL gets run by the flash rom
14:04:26wpyhFor me, this dos not work with one CF card
14:04:38wpyh(I did the CF card mod)
14:04:56Sjanodomonoky: thanks
14:05:24wpyhBut the fact is, the flash rom can be flashed: Put a fresh firmware update into the fw partition, and upon reboot the ipod will flash itself
14:05:54Sjanoif i use rbuild, will it delete my old fonts themes and so on?
14:06:32BigBambiyou mean rbutil, and no
14:06:35domonokySjano: no, rbutil will just extract a new rockbox.zip on your player, all extras will stay intact−−
14:06:45wpyhAnd if I understand it correctly, the code there (for flashing the flash rom) will be executed
14:07:12Sjanothanks again :D
14:07:17wpyhso in my theory if we can put our BL in place of the flash image, we can make the flash rom run it
14:07:28domonokywpyh: as far as i know ipod dont do flash upgrades. the firmware is on the disk, not in flash..
14:08:12wpyhWell, there is a flash rom that runs and loads the OF. This flash rom is inside a flash chip
14:08:32domonokywpyh: sure, but thats probably only a bootloader..

16:06:44shiftplusoneinfact I was compiling fine until I ran svn update.
16:07:09Seldaekgevaerts: well thanks for the ebay thingies, I'll try and get one of those unless you wanted to?
16:07:41gevaertsSeldaek: no. I already have an F20 and an F60, so I'm happy :)
16:08:10Seldaekno rockbox trouble?
16:09:00gevaertsNo. Both work perfectly
16:10:10gevaertsshiftplusone: current svn builds fine here
16:10:53gevaertsshiftplusone: Can you run 'svn stat' from the checkout root to see if it's really clean ?
16:10:53PaulJam_shiftplusone: you could try 'make clean' and/or run configure again.
16:12:36shiftplusoneI've been messing with the rockboy code to get it working on my greyscale... and it was working just before... I will get those files again to double-check.

16:19:56LloreanYou'll pretty much always have to reencode for a portable device, since they tend to have processors too slow to decode as large an image as most videos tend to be.
16:20:42Seldaekaye I guess
16:21:41Seldaekwill have to make myself some virtualdub scripts, or are there decent apps that do it out there ?
16:22:03*gevaerts recently dowloaded 8GB of videos that are 320x240 mpeg1, so he doesn't always agree with that 'you have to reencode anyway' thing

21:11:05BigBambiballeyne: Rockbox has no USB on ipod - you can't use it to update from
21:11:19BigBambi(or firewire - I can't remember which the third gen is)
21:13:56fml(about c200): it stpped with rockbox boot screen still visible. Is it the OF that failed?
21:13:59balleyneBigBambi: right. was reading that on the wiki. damn. Whenever I try to boot the Apple firmware, it just resets itself before getting past the Apple logo. Am trying disk mode, but without much luck...
21:14:20BigBambidisk mode is in flash, so unless you have a hardware problem should always work

21:16:17balleyneBigBambi: Thanks. Will try to update to the latest Rockbox now!
21:16:22BigBambicool :)
21:19:54balleyneBigBambi: blech, I guess disk mode might not work with USB if the iPod came with Firewire? Don't have firewire on this laptop... I'll have to try another machine upstairs
21:20:11balleyneBigBambi: thanks again though, think I can figure this out now
21:20:18BigBambidisk mode should work with whatever connection the ipod has I would have thought
21:20:27BigBambiballeyne: good luck :)

22:46:18archet45whats up guys
22:46:40LeoDI restarted my iPod G5 after having initialized the database...
22:46:49LeoDnow it says "data abort at 000447788 (0)"
22:46:57LeoDany idea what could be going wrong?
22:47:37archet45will atapwd.exe remove an ata password for a hitachi drive that was locked by an xbox?
22:48:59Bagderarchet45: welcome to #rockbox
22:49:11Bagderarchet45: that sounds like something to ask Hitachi about
22:49:44archet45sorry, i was searching everywhere on google and it looked like what you guys had to offer was what i needed, i see now that it isnt
22:49:48BagderLeoD: data abort is a crash, so it's a bug in Rockbox
22:49:56LeoDok
22:49:58Bagderarchet45: it's a tool we've usde in the past
22:50:01LeoDanything I can do to workaround it? :|
22:50:16archet45anyone think the ipod 6g will be able to have rockbox on it anytime soon or ever?
22:50:29LeoDI guess I'll try reinstalling rockbox
22:50:30BagderLeoD: upgrade? fix the bug? downgrade?
22:50:42LeoDaye :)
22:50:57Bagderarchet45: not soon, possibly never
22:51:08LeoDhuh, I restarted again and now it's "committing database [1/9]"
22:52:26LeoDbut it hangs.

22:58:52robin0800archet45, well probably no more info from rockbox then
22:59:01balleyneBigBambi: just wanted to say thanks again. Had to wait awhile to get enough battery charge to do the update, but reinstalling/upgrading the bootloader fixed the issue of the Apple firmware not booting, and the current build of Rockbox seems to be working fine. :)

23:01:22pmac135yeah.. i just wonder why v2 is so much different to decode than the v1 firmware?

23:01:39Bagder1) it's not "to decode" and 2) it's a completely different player
23:02:28pmac135alright.. im just curious, i feel like the info i find is somewhat vague and distant for the v2
23:02:47Bagderjoin in and help and it might happen sooner!

23:09:00Bagderto how their file format is created?
23:09:17BagderI doubt the tech guys you'd reach even know or would be able to find out
23:09:34pmac135no, not quite like that.. just getting the foot in the door for how they access such info
23:09:36Bagderbut perhaps I'm just negative
23:09:36*gevaerts guesses that pmac135 hopes to get recovery modes
23:09:40pmac135exactly..
23:09:55BagderI'm quite sure there are no recovery modes to speak of
23:10:21pmac135isnt that kind of... reverse engineering then, why would they have it in v1 and not in v2 at all?
23:10:29gevaertsThere might be some that require soldering
23:10:47Bagderpmac135: because v2 is a totally new thing and they couldn't carry those things over anyway
23:11:09Bagderand perhaps even because the modes of the v1 caused to my trouble

23:12:08pmac135what do you think they do with players they acquire after troubleshooting doesnt work?
23:12:18pmac135like.. a special program they only have?
23:12:22Bagderjtag perhaps
23:12:54pmac135mhmm, possible (i love wikipedia...)
