00:20:05MTeeno, unicode is a superset of ascii if I may recall, I meant other encondings
00:20:37Mode"#rockbox -o scorche|sh " by ChanServ (ChanServ@services.)
00:21:48MTeeI know that unicode supports most of the world's languages so that's why I asked about how possible it is for a text file to contain non-unicode characters
00:22:03stripwaxI don't imagine it's scarce for a text file to make use of codepage-dependent characters from ascii. E.g. anything with accented characters or block graphics

00:32:09stripwaxDo UTF-8 text files always use a BOM?
00:32:19 Part LinusN
00:32:23*stripwax wonders, if so, why it makes sense to have it as a selectable codepage
00:32:37amiconnNo they don't
00:32:45MTeestripwax : what's BOM ?
00:32:46stripwaxThey don't, or they don't always
00:32:55amiconnIt's optional
00:32:57stripwaxah
00:33:31amiconnThere is no real reason to use a BOM, as the byte order is fixed. But the BOM is sometimes used as a marker for an UTF-8 file
00:33:32stripwaxMTee - an indicator at the start of the file to say "this file is in UTF-8". It's a sequence of bytes
00:34:01stripwaxor what amiconn said, since he's way more knowledgable :)(
00:34:08MTeeI see
00:34:31pixelmae.g if you use a BOM in an fmr file - the first line gets skipped (more of a bug but still...)
00:35:29stripwaxSo without any sort of indicator in the text file, how my text files look depends on my codepage.
00:35:45stripwaxpixelma - hmm...
00:37:47MTeestripwax : I don't know, and I would be happy to know the answer to such question :)

06:22:36andyd273Well, I loaded one audiobook onto mine. It was ripped from CD to MP3 using itunes (just for the ease of naming albums and tracks). When I went to play it, it put them in the order of cd1-track1, cd2-track1, cd1-track2, cd2-track2, etc... which obviously wont work, and I havent found a way to arrange them correctly

06:33:41andyd273I guess a playlist is an option, but it's more trouble than I really want to go through. I got spoiled by my wifes sansa clip. it has a folder just for audiobooks and one just for podcasts, and it keeps everything seperate from the music, and does everything automatically...

08:27:11Buschelamiconn: do you remember what limits the lcd framerates on the 5G? is it the transfer from buffer to BCM-registers, or waiting for the sync to be allowed to start the next update?
08:31:58amiconnThere is no more wait-for-sync. That's the main trick to get framerates that high
08:32:44Buschelamiconn: so, the framereate is fully dependent upon the copy-function
08:32:51amiconnThe update command is issued asynchronously as necessary
08:33:03amiconnIf you have a look at the rightmost column, you see the limiting factor. It's plain memory transfer speed...
08:34:22Buschelso, using 8 reg's for ldm/stm instead of 4 reg's won't speed it up anymore?
08:34:35amiconnThe transfer routine already uses ldma/stmia. The latter is possible because the bcm addresses are only 3 bit, and the bcm is hooked up with its address bits 0..2 to the PP's address bits 16..18

08:51:22scorchelufthanza: this is a DAP...other filesystems would just bloat the core a *LOT*, take away usable RAM, would restrict the amount of platforms that you could connect to greatly, etc

12:27:40JR0THello, i've got a problem with rockbox
12:28:26pixelmaif you tell us, we might be able to help ;)
12:28:47JR0Tit won't update the database
12:28:56JR0Tand if i go to files it jams
12:29:09JR0Tive got a sansa e260
12:29:56PaulJamwhat do you mean by "it jams"?
12:30:38JR0Tit crashes
12:30:45JR0Tbut doesn't give a error
12:30:47pixelmaI don't know what you mean with "jams" but the first question coming to my mind is how you put the files on there (MTP mode using the Media player or MSC mode)
12:31:04JR0Tno if i go in main menu to files
12:31:11JR0Ton the player himself
12:32:41pixelmahow did you copy the files to your player?
12:32:43PaulJammaybe some serious filesystem corruption? have you tried to run chkdsk (or the linus equivalent)?

12:34:24JR0Tyes
12:36:04pixelmaok, forget my idea then... just thought it could be the reason because Rockbox can't handle files copied over in MTP mode as far as I know

13:16:40pixelmain the manual, long button presses are indicated as "Long ButtonX" and simple ones are just referenced as "ButtonX". Now there's this short-long press button combo to skip to the next directory which leads to my question: is it necessary to write "Short ButtonX + Long ButtonX" or would leaving out the "Short" be clear enough? It makes for some long (and wide) button tables...

14:31:42MarcGuayJ-23: If you look at the PDF you can search it.
14:31:49pixelmaMarcGuay: only the H10 pdfs are broken, caused by this change. I think it has to do with one of the actions not "closed" with a {} or \ , which means the space to the next one is missing and the line gets too long and LaTeX doesn't know where to break it. The html one is fine as it doesn't break the lines in the button tables.
14:32:00J-23thanks, I found it.
14:32:18MarcGuaypixelma: Mrsh. Sorry about that, I did test builds. Why specific to the H10?
14:34:30pixelmaI guess because the buttons defined for those actions on the H10 just have too long names... but I wanted to write it shorter - you'd only need to opt the \ActionWpsAbSetBPrevDir and the rest will be in a part taken for all

16:24:58LambdaCalculus37My iPod color has Apple firmware 1.2.1 on it, so that means that my LCD is being treated as big-endian.

18:00:53wpyhthe iriver T60 contains such a chip, but I don't know whether it's 8731 or 8731L
18:01:22wpyhthis chip is also found in the iriver H10, which we support

18:02:00LambdaCalculus37Aren't there other devices with either chip in them?
18:02:47wpyhthe only difference I think is that the WM8731L can be initialized with a lower voltage
18:03:28wpyhthe "digital supply range (buffer)" is 1.8 to 3.6 for the 8731L vs 2.7 to 3.6 for the 8731, ditto for the "analogue supply range"

19:58:27shotofaddscertainly we need to be clearer about our version numbers. eg. the wiki talks about "v2"s being AMS-based, but in fact these are hardware v4 and use v4.xx firmware

21:37:54saratogai've noticed that if playback is paused, and I go to another album and try to play, it will often buffer the new track but remain paused
21:38:02amiconnWhich one? The not starting playback one?
21:38:07GodEater_yes that one
21:38:18amiconnsaratoga: That's by design
21:38:43amiconn(unpause should make it play)
21:39:16amiconnGodEater: I got that 3 or 4 times on my mini so far. Happened e.g. yesterday...
21:39:31LambdaCalculus37I've never seen that, either. And I've tried it on three PP targets.

21:40:12saratogaamiconn: should starting a new track unpause?

21:40:31amiconnsaratoga: Nope. You need to unpause explicitly
21:40:48saratogathat seems counterintuitive to me, what is the reasoning behind that?
21:40:58shotofaddsamiconn: did you see my FIQ question the other day? I'm trying to adjust my code so it doesn't stack unless get_more is called. but including the three commented-out lines causes playback to run at about double speed. I can't work it out... http://pastebin.ca/1052111

21:42:29amiconnsaratoga: Pause is independent of track selection. And btw, either behaviour can be seen as being counterintuitive
21:43:37LloreanI personally think it'd be nice to be able to "Pause" when playback is stopped, so that a freshly inserted track queues, and buffers, but does not start (so it's ready for an absolute instant start)
21:44:05LloreanNot meant as a request or anything, but just stating that "Pause" being independent makes sense to me.
21:45:08amiconnThat would at least require solving the pause behaviour wrt voice
21:45:23amiconn(a good thing to do anyway)

21:46:18LloreanWell, I can't imagine there's a button available for it anyway.
21:46:44PaulJamso i was now finally able to reproduce the stoppping of playback near the end of the playlist bug with an official build. but only after enabling database in RAM and dircache. so in order to check if this is related to those settings or the decreased size of the codec buffer i was wondering if there is an easy way to artificially decrease the available amount of RAM for playback.
21:46:51LloreanThough I guess an "Insert and Pause" option for when playback is stopped might do it.
21:47:22LloreanPaulJam: Increase the plugin buffer in the config-playername.h file when building.
21:48:28PaulJamLlorean: ok, thank you.

21:51:35*amiconn has a suspicion
21:53:14amiconnshotofadds: It's actually obvious: You use 'blx' in .more_data, so you need to save lr
21:53:22amiconnIt's needed later in .exit
21:53:43*amiconn wonders why this only causes double speed instead of a horrible crash
21:54:43shotofaddsamiconn: but currently, lr is restored in .exit. the same problem still happens

22:05:25LloreanBagder: Could I suggest one more topic: What is the "goal" of RBUtil? Installer, or "overall Rockbox utility program"? Including, would it be bad to offer front ends for preparing video, album art, or other data that Rockbox expects in a single specific format?
22:05:40Bagdersure, I'll insert that
22:06:02amiconnshotofadds: So if you uncomment the 3 commented instructions it starts playing double speed, without commenting the ones at 11 and 41?
22:06:05LloreanI never even thought of adding it to the page until now, it's always just something we end up talking about in here.

22:11:45amiconnThere should be enough cables I think, but I have to check for the amount of longer ones

22:12:00mcuelenaereahh ok no problem, mine is quite long so..
22:12:20shotofaddsamiconn: now I'm really confused. I've re-tested this a few times and the new code (11/41 removed, 45,54,60 added) works perfectly. You may have a point with stack usage, other than that I'm /very/ confused.
22:12:44shotofaddsalthough since I wrote that code originally the D2 no longer uses IRAM

If you read the CustomWPS page, you need to remove the %m tags (margins) and possibly put things in a new viewport to replace those tags, then update the %pb tag to the new code. it sounds complicated me saying it, but trust me, it's really not hard.
