#rockbox log for 2010-05-04

00:01:23funmanperhaps it means gcc needs to be rebuilt with specific options for this cpu ?
00:03:13amiconnvfp and (classic) fpu are not the same
00:03:34funmanamiconn: do you have an idea about this ?
00:04:13amiconnAnd afaik no recent-ish arm core actually has a classic fpu
00:04:15funmanstrings on cc1 shows both arm1176jz-s and arm1176jzf-s
00:04:32funmanamiconn: the problem here is why are we trying to link with a FPU-enabled libgcc
00:04:47amiconnUsing the wrong multilibs?
00:05:00funmanhow does one select multilib if not by gcc -mcpu=X ?
00:06:17funmanhttp://www.rockbox.org/gcc/rockbox-multilibs-arm-elf-gcc-4.0.3_3.diff has arm1176jz-s in the list but i don't see it in prefix/arm-elf/gcc/arm-elf/4.0.3
00:06:30funmanwas this patch updated sometime ago ?
00:07:07funman(parent directory is 403)
00:08:28funmanloveless: when did you install arm compiler through rockboxdev.sh ?

04:41:48funmanif you remove the splashes which say 1/9 2/9 etc .. will you still report the progress?

05:39:38funmanarlaneenalra: yes, but the first thing you should notice is the 'FM radio' entry in the main menu
05:40:42arlaneenalraI gave c6/7 a shot since they seem to be listed as pins with an i2c interface in the datasheet for the as3525
05:41:30funmanwhere?
05:42:04funmanyou should rather try B0 and A0 or A4 (what i saw in fuzev2 OF), but current code assume both pins are on the same port (A B C or D)
05:42:21arlaneenalrayeah, I noticed that
05:42:46arlaneenalraLet me give that a shot then,
05:42:58arlaneenalraIt's been a while since I've done anything with an embedded chip
05:44:05funmani tried both on my fuze, tried longer delays but no luck
05:44:17funmani think perhaps we need to set some GPIO pin to power the FM chip
05:45:03arlaneenalrayou said all three of those were referenced in the OF?
05:45:15funmanyes one is the scl pin
05:45:23funmanthe other 2 are selected dynamically as the sda pin
05:45:55funmansomething like if(*fm_pin == 0) sda = A0; else sda = A4;
05:48:52arlaneenalrahmm
05:50:10funmancan you read ARM assembly?
05:50:44arlaneenalraI can probably figure it out,
05:51:07funmanif you split a fuzev2 OF with utils/AMS/hacking/amsinfo.c i can point you to the FM i2c code

06:00:24funmanhm objdump does a better job (because it can understand thumb code too)
06:00:42topikthanks for the effort on write support for as3525v2 funman/FlynDice. that's a great milestone.
06:01:23funmanarlaneenalra: most of the code is in 'firmware' which you can load at '0'
06:01:37funmanpretty much all the files have mixed arm/thumb so you should disassemble them in both mode
06:02:07funmanarm-elf-objdump -m arm -b binary (−−disassembler-options=force-thumb) "file"
06:02:35funmanthe FM code is in wav_codec , entry point 0x29550
06:03:44funmanhmm −−start-address doesn't work like i want
06:04:11arlaneenalrahmm, I don't have a -m or -b option for arm-elf-objdump . . .

06:07:29arlaneenalrathis is what I get http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=DF0zVHsi
06:08:08funmanyeah same, but the options are there anyway (just look at man objdump, it's the same options)
06:09:05saratogausually those two stock objdump commands are enough
06:10:03funmanbut it would be nice to specify a base address
06:10:43funmanif you run "arm-elf-objdump -m arm -b binary -D wav_codec\ \ " the function at (0x)1420: is "fm_i2c_send_byte", r0 contains the byte to write
06:11:31arlaneenalramissed the -D option duh!
06:11:52funmanthe function it calls (3 times) is just a (fixed) busy loop, r0 is meant to be the number of loops but it's overwritten by the function which is: "mov r0, #60\n 1: nop\n subs r0, r0, #1 \n bne 1b \n bx lr\n"

15:46:26b0hoonhi, first of all sorry for my confusion and maybe a stupid questions, but i would like to release a bootloader for the vibe. Now - the bootloader for the vibe is generally a Portal Player bootloader, so should i tag it now as a v7.0, then compile it from the tagged version and upload it on the server?
15:46:34b0hoonBut then the version will change for all the other targets too, unless it is not necessary to update every bootloader for every target on the server. Or should i just make the current version with VERSIOn=6.0 only?
15:48:20kugelyou could do a 6.1 if contains no other changes than vibe support
15:48:41kugel(for vibe only)
15:49:01JdGordonb0hoon: bootloader versions are not kept in sync between targets
15:49:24b0hoonkugel: yes it doesnt contain any other changes, so make with VERSION=6.1 would be ok then?
15:49:25kugelI think for the PP bootloaders we hacked into some files, not the make VERSION=X approach (it may still work though)

15:55:03b0hoonkugel: that was something like a month ago
15:55:49kugelyou probably want to checkout the tack, merge the changes for vibe, and retag it as 6.1 (making clear somehow that it hasn't been tested on other PP devices and thus should only be used on the vibe)
15:56:11kugelbut I can imagine it'll be quite a job to merge the changes, so it would probably easier to build it from svn and tag that as 6.1
15:57:18b0hoonkugel: aa, if you ask about the changes, it's in SVN already
15:57:29linuxstbI would just release it as 1.0 - that's what we normally call the first bootloader for a particular target, and this release isn't linked to the 6.0 PP release.
15:57:50kugelthat'll work fine as well :)
15:58:01b0hooni just didnt tagged it in svn as a release
15:58:17linuxstbThe next version can always be 7.0 if we then want to sync with other PP targets.
15:58:19Torneif future releases of PP bootloaders in general are going ot include the vibe, then i think it should be the same numbering scheme, no?
15:59:39b0hoonok, so which version of approach should i use?
16:00
16:00:09linuxstbTorne: This release isn't part of the 6.0 release though - that's an old branch, b0hoon is working with trunk.
16:00:40Torneyeah.. but presumably at some point in the future there will be a 7.0 from trunk for all of them
16:00:44*kugel would prefer 6.1 but it hardly matters afterall
16:00:48*Torne shrugs
16:01:04linuxstbTorne: Yes, so we simply go 1.0 -> 7.0
16:01:16b0hoontag as 1.0 - for the new target, tag as 7.0 portal players bootladers and then upload, or make verion=6.1 and upload
16:01:24*linuxstb shrugs as well - it's not a big deal...
16:03:17kugelb0hoon: I think you tag in any event, and only for the vibe not the other PP, the question is the particular version number

16:57:42criguidshould I download a more recent svn build to give it a try?

17:02:47criguidOK; I can give you a mail address for the voice files or if you put them on an ftp or repository I can go and grab them
17:03:08ThomasAHcriguid: compiling first voice file now ... the version I use is two days older and works fine (except for not having write support, this was added today)

17:08:22criguidthanks! I wil try to copy paste the url from the chat and see... in the next few days I can give some impressions on voice problems or general problems or strange behaviour.
17:08:46criguidis this the right place to do it?
17:09:11criguidI mean I don't want to annoy you with off topic issues
17:09:14ThomasAHcriguid: I don't know, I'm not a rockbox developer
17:09:51ThomasAHcriguid: I think it is on-topic here, but if you want to report bugs, the bug tracker might have a more permanent way to report problems
17:10:11bluebroth3rcriguid: this channel is for development and support issues. So it's at least not completely off. You might get directed to the tracker when it comes to actual bugs

18:58:22kisak_hi guys, I was looking at the gentoo section of http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CrossCompiler and gcc 4.0.3 is no longer in gentoo portage, I'm getting 4.0.4 right now and I was wondering if it was safe to bump the version in the wiki
18:58:33kisak_4.0.3 -> 4.0.4
18:58:57Tornekisak_: No, it's not.

18:59:09TorneYou should use rockboxdev.sh to automatically build the toolchain
18:59:16Torneor else follow the manual instructions *exactly*
18:59:36Tornewe don't support any other toolchain versions; these are the ones that are tested and patched and that we know produce efficient code
18:59:44Torneyou don't need to get gcc from portage anyway..

19:00:41Tornethe gentoo instructions there seem.. really dumb
19:01:05Tornenobody should be doing that.
19:01:34kisak_ok, then perhaps it's ok to leave a note in the gentoo section thet this method is not recommended?
19:02:21Torneprobably best to just remove it unless someone knows a good reason why anyone would want to do it that way
19:02:27Torneit's not been touched since 2007

22:52:02fmlBut while trying to reproduce the problem on e200 sim, I've experinced another interesting case. I went into the context menu and long pressed (and didn't release) the rec key, which, as I hoped, would reproduc the problem (long press -> hotkey menu -> key release). But this didn't happen.
22:53:55fmlInstead, the menu was just left without doing anything. And the reason was that long rec on e200 should get you directly to the recording screen. So if you long press rec, the menu code returns GOTO_REC (or what's the name?). And that case dos nothing in the further code in that context.
