#rockbox log for 2010-06-25

00:00:17 Part b0hoon ("GTG. Bye.")
00:00:24 Quit piggz (Remote host closed the connection)
00:00:29bertrikI guess so too. You normally write this WAKEUP stuff only once I guess, just before powerdown.
00:00:36 Quit fdinel (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)
00:01:20 Quit petur (Quit: Zzzzzz)
00:01:39Jerompamaury: Are you still here ?
00:01:42funmandid you see r26875 ?
00:01:46bertrikI though that maybe I could fix the powerdown problem by first writing some 0-date to it, then writing the actual data, but I guess I can't
00:02:14funmanthis wrote 3 bytes of wakeup register at power-on, *and* power-off if alarm was enabled, and it worked
00:02:35funmanso perhaps you have to make continuous writes? (that's why i disabled irq before writing to this register)
00:02:47funmani mean any write to another register would reset the counter
00:03:40funmanbtw writing to wakeup register forces a µSD database refresh at next OF boot
00:03:49JeromI don't know if this will help you but when you add a delay a the top of "handle_ep_int" I've noticed that it work a lot better.
00:04:52JeromSorry meant at the top of "usb_drv_transfer"
00:06:10bertrikfunman, that sounds like a good explanation (resetting the counter when another register is read)
00:07:19 Quit pamaury (Remote host closed the connection)

00:55:28saratogais "No Music in DOOM for Clip v2" actually a bug?
00:55:39saratogacan any targets play music in doom?
00:57:00S_a_i_n_tIIRC there used to be music in Doom, but a: It needs to be enabled in the in-game menu (its off by default) and b: It doesn't seem to work for FreeDoom.
00:57:26S_a_i_n_tI'm pretty sure I remember Doom and Doom2 having music at one point in time.

05:04:22bieberIf anyone has access to an OSX install and feels like taking a look at the Theme Editor, I'd much appreciate it
05:05:11bieberI had a friend test it and he says that neither the project panel nor the preview window are working at all, and I don't have a Mac to check it out with :/
05:05:33JdGordoni have a mac
05:05:40JdGordondunno how to build for it though
05:10:22Dhraakellianhow fit for use is it?
05:11:08bieberJdGordon: I think you just need to install Qt and g++, and you can compile it easy enough
05:12:05bieberDhraakellian: Right now the code editing portion is pretty good, syntax highlighting and line numbering are there, and it will parse as you type and load the results into a parse tree window
05:12:46Dhraakellianokay
05:12:56bieberThe graphical preview, at the moment, is of limited utility. I've got it showing a backdrop image if one is set, and it'll show you viewports outlined in red (blue if they're the custom UI viewport), but the real rendering stuff I'm going to be working on over the next couple of days
05:13:14Dhraakellianyeah, as I mentioned a few lines up, I need to get around to actually making a WPS to go with another project
05:13:23Dhraakellianone that's more than a quick-and-dirty proof of concept

05:29:27bieberAnyone want to fill me in on fonts a little bit?
05:30:14JdGordonwhats the problem?
05:30:45bieberI just need to use them for the renderer. I'll try to actually read the glyphs later, but for now I just want to get the size info out of them so I can space things out right
05:31:02bieberI'm assuming that height is the maximum height of a glyph, but what's the ascent?
05:31:03JdGordonif you are at all lucky you'll be able to use the font code directly
05:31:16bieberAnd how do I determine the distance between lines?
05:31:49bieberOoh, I should look at that. If it just loads everything into buffers, I should be able to turn those into QPixmaps pretty easy
05:32:13jhMikeSsetting the AS3514 DAC bias to 50% causes it to start clipping at -33dB...(iiow ignore OF settings) :)
05:32:26JdGordonlook at firmware/fonts.c font_load_in_memory()
05:32:34bieberWill do
05:32:47bieberFor my quick fix, though, how do I space the lines out?
05:33:06bieberAlso, CustomWPS says font numbers 0 and 1 are reserved. I'm assuming one of those is the default font, but what about the other?
05:33:23JdGordonfont_load_header() to get the font height :)

05:33:38JdGordonfont 0 is the inbuilt 8pixel heigh font, font 1 is the ui font from the settings
05:33:47bieberOkay
05:34:18bieberNow, will themes always bundle their fonts, or do they just assume the existence of the ones that ship with Rockbox?
05:34:29JdGordonthey do both
05:34:43JdGordonthe theme site rejects themes which contain the rockbox fonts
05:35:00JdGordonso if you can download them locally that would be ideal
05:35:48bieberOkay, so I'll need to build up a list of included fonts and check for those filenames
05:36:06Horschthave there been any changes since begin of may to 3.6 to the wps engine? My wps stopped working after an upgrade (also tried latest build)
05:36:24bieberFor the time being, I'll just render everything 8 pixels tall so I can get something on the screen
05:36:40bieberWhat about line spacing, though? Is that specified in the font file or the project config?
05:37:06JdGordonline spacing comes from the font size
05:37:17JdGordon0 pixels between lines
05:37:24bieberOhhh, okay
05:37:32JdGordonHorscht: entirely redone
05:37:56bieberJdGordon: It didn't change before the 3.6 release though, did it?

10:47:18Zambezigevaerts: So why would it just boot to Apples firmware then?
10:48:39gevaertsZambezi: there are three reasons for ending up in the Apple firmware: (a) you uninstalled the rockbox bootloader or reinstalled the Apple firmware, (b) hold was on, or (c) it was in the Apple firmware all along, just in sleep mode
10:52:28Zambezigevaerts: Then I'm guessing it was hold cause when I hooked it up it booted to Rockbox. This never happened before. And the cable is so stiff I have to bend it. I have to buy replacement or buy a Sandisk Sansa, but then I can't use my CF-card. Though choice.

17:27:57WesleyCHi there. I need help with something that is hopefully simple. I've not compiled a daily/current build since just after 3.6 came out, and I'm getting a new error from the compiler: arm-elf-eabi-gcc: not found
17:28:34TorneWe've changed ot a new compiler on many devices
17:28:47TorneDelete the old toolchain installation directory and build a new eabi toolchain using rockboxdev.sh
17:30:41WesleyCHmm. I may need more specific instructions. Where is toolchain, and rockboxdev.sh?

17:31:10WesleyCxubuntu, specifically
17:31:14WesleyCI foudn the sh
17:31:32Torneby default it installs to /usr/local/arm-elf i think
17:31:35WesleyCdoes it do all, or do I need to do the toolchain stuff first and THEN run the sh?
17:31:38Torneunless you told it to put it somewhere else
17:31:46Tornedelete the old toolchain, once you've found it
17:31:54Tornethen run rockboxdev.sh as root
17:32:02Torneand when it asks which toolchains you want, tell it 'e' for eabi
17:32:12Torneit will build the toolchain and install it for you
17:32:42Tornehttp://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CrossCompiler <- these instructoins are updated for the new compiler
17:32:44WesleyCWill it be a directory named "toolchain"?
17:32:49Torneno
17:32:58Torneit will be called arm-elf
17:33:27Torneand if it's not in /usr/local then *you* installed it somewhere else, so you'll have to find it yourself ;)
17:33:44WesleyCAha. I vaguely remember doing similar years ago. I found the arm-elf directory so I think I'm good.

18:30:09*Strife89 has a couple of questions regarding two revisions.
18:30:13Strife89http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi?view=rev;revision=27028
18:30:14Strife89and
18:30:21Strife89http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi?view=rev;revision=27077
18:30:58Strife89Especially 27077; "hopefully" not disastrous?
18:31:56Strife89Any word on how this has played out so far?
18:33:40bertrikI guess "disastrous" refers to extra current consumption from the battery because of the spinning disk
18:34:00Strife89Ah.
18:34:27Strife89So, despite the choice of words, there's not really anything dangerous?
18:37:28bertrikI guess not
18:39:19*Strife89 updates his build.
18:40:21WesleyCOne more thing, taht I think I have fixed but it could be a bigger problem than I think. In firmware/export/config/ipodvideo.h after the comment /* enable these for the experimental usb stack */ , if I comment out the next 5 lines I get a ton of errors compiling. If I only comment out #define USE_ROCKBOX_USB it compiles fine and appears to do what I want (boot into the original firmware for usb connect)

21:10:49pixelmagiovanni: just had a very quick look and the \ActionSomething commands seem wrong. They should contain one of the \ButtonPower or \TouchTopLeft etc. that are at the top of the keymap files. For the Onda specific one you would probably only need a few extra ones where the Power button is used, all the ones that are touchscreen specific can already be found in the keymap-touchscreen.tex which you already link from the platform file

21:21:10pixelmathe Actions basically work this way: the description in some text contains e.g. \ActionWpsPlay -> latex can "look up" in the related keymap file which button text it should replace this when compiling for a specific target . This saves special casing for different PADs in the descriptions and is really useful for core button assignment where you can be almost sure that every target has it

22:12:14pixelmahrmm... different version of Inkscape wrote quite a lot differently but if it works... The MRobe500 and CowonD2 images also have no mime-type set, so that I see all these differences in a diff
