11:11:21rarogyeah. and i'm glad to help. I was waiting for some months for rockbox as it is in most cases superior to the original firmware and my wishes in the OF will be probably ignored. things like albumartist-tag which is useful for compilations.
11:11:56rarogat least with OF I can now use folder navigation tu circumvent this issue.

11:14:28rarogif the lcd starts to work I can provide an additional tester, as my gf has one fuze+ and is waiting for rockbox port, too. :)
11:21:21pamaurywhat is really useful is to stress the fuze+ with all the audio you have (and yes it will pop on boot unfortunately)
11:23:46rarogpop? you mean a sound heard in the headphones?
11:24:20rarogat least this is the case in the OF, it was always a signal for me that in another minute it's finally usable.
11:25:17pamauryif you boot rockbox with the headphones plugged in, it will "pop", it only happen one when charging the capacity and I'm unable to cancel it for now
11:25:29pamaurys/one/once
11:25:39pamauryit's not important, just annoying :)
11:27:04rarogyeah, but I'm used to the annoyance of the OF, so it won't be a big ussue for me, I think. :D
11:28:11rarogfor me it seems like an issue with hardware if it happens in rockbox AND the OF.
11:29:22pamauryin theory the chip as a pop cancellation procedure but it doesn't work apparently; also tell me if you feel the audio is of lesser quality or something, some audio parameters can be tweaked
11:30:03rarogyes, I can stress test it comparing it to the output of the OF.
11:33:11raroghm... rockbox still doesn't have video playback with MPEG4, but for this I can still use the OF which isn't a big issue. It was an issue for me some years ago when I user rockbox on ipod 5g as I refuesd to use itunes. fortunately fuze+ doesn't use any special software and special container, so falling back to OF is never an issue. (and I watch videos only rarely)

11:51:09rarogI use to watch yellow submarine from time to time as the film doesn't require too many fine details, I know it completely and the pictures just complement the music. :D
11:52:19rarogbut as I said, in 99% of cases I just want to listen to music and use display to see the song name or to change the played song, so video function in rockbox has only low priority for me

13:01:21kugelokay, so as we've branched, can I get opinions on FS #12358?
13:01:21fs-bluebothttp://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/12358 Support for transparency in 32bit Bitmaps (patches, new)
13:02:46kugelI'd like to submit, but I expect it slows down resizing a bit
13:03:21kugeldrawing is slower too, but I added a "this image doesnt actually contain alpha information"-case which is drawn in the old&fast code path
13:03:50JdGordongot screenshots that actually show a useful difference?
13:04:59kugelplus, ultimatively, I want new icons using this, especially for RaaA (FS #12328 is useful for that too). that needs a decision on what to do with the existing icons. they a) dont have alpha infos, b) look a bit worse, c) have different icons than the one the tango script generates
13:05:00fs-bluebothttp://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/12328 move icons onto buflib and remove the 24x24 max iconsize limitation (patches, new)
13:09:42kugelJdGordon: http://imagebin.org/181579 (32bit) vs http://imagebin.org/181580 (svn, [Saint]'s icons)
13:10:35JdGordonthe "resume playback" arrow is the only one i can actually see a difference
13:10:52wodzI would say go commit. Alpha blending was looong discussed idea
13:11:25kugelwell, the database is pretty obvious (and has a shadow)
13:11:52kugelwodz: the alpha blending is already in svn actually. it's just enabling it for 32bit bitmaps
13:12:12[Saint]Awww..hell yeah. My iconset was a quick hack, I always intended to do soemthing better, but it was one of those "round-to-it" things.
13:13:26[Saint]these iconsets can be created with a nice script...and look a lot better than I could get them at varying resolutions without alpha blanding.
13:13:51[Saint]I'm all for it, its less work for me...and a prettier return.
13:14:15JdGordonif it speeds up 1024*768 cabbie go for it :)
13:15:54kugel[Saint]: I added resizing support, btw, but I suggest not usign it for icons
13:16:41kugelthe result is not so pretty. mostly ugly for upscaling, for downscaling only acceptable for non-odd factors (i.e. 1/2)
13:16:46[Saint]kugel: Right, yeah...I didn't think it'd look that great. Upsizing wouldn't bee too bad, though right?
13:17:00[Saint]Oh...I thought downscaled would look worse.
13:17:02[Saint]Hmmm.
13:17:27kugelon the pc you can create them from svg so the result is always better
13:17:54[Saint]kugel: Do you have some method of producing an iconset from cabbie sources for <arbitrary size>?
13:18:13[Saint]Getting some target specific sized icons in svn is long overdue.
13:18:34kugelwell, there's a script in svn
13:18:57[Saint]Ah, right. I thought you might have been using bluebrother's script...but wasn't sure.
13:19:06kugelit's a bit outdated, but point it to untarred tango set, specify icon size and let it go
13:19:19kugelI was using that
13:29:34kugelJdGordon: how far is the gui boost patch?
13:29:53JdGordoni didnt work on it since it was discussed
13:30:19kugelthe e200 needs it also if anti-aliased fonts are used. I suspect it's worsened (however I didnt notice anything major) with alpha icons

19:09:41metaphysplus I have no idea how to split such a file to sent it in a bug report...
19:10:52pamaurymetaphys: can't to just copy a small fraction of it with an audio tool ?
19:11:39alienkidpamaury: how's the brick chance?
19:12:21pamauryyou can't brick it, you can also use the hardware recovery mode and all other people have reported success (at least can boot in the OF in any case)
19:13:04pamaury(by can't I mean, extremely unlikely except by doing crazy things that the code won't do anyway)
19:13:34alienkidok. HW recovery mode?
19:14:10pamauryif you plug usb with volume up hold, the device show up as a HID device in which you can upload code to it, so it's possible to recover
19:14:18metaphyspamaury: you mean like dding the file?
19:15:16metaphysi'm trying with gnusound but i can't find how to copy several channel
19:15:31alienkidso with the HW recovery mode I could boot to it temporarily or something?
19:15:45pamauryit's not that simple, you have to upload a recovery file which will then make the device show up as UMS in which you can dd the file (but there is an offset to get right also)
19:15:58metaphysbut primary I would like to know if it worth it, because it's not a 24 bit as I first thought: it's 32 bit!
19:16:33alienkidoh
19:16:35pamauryalienkid: theoretically yes, you could try rockbox without installing the bootloader

19:17:39alienkidesp. if it's as easy as refreshing the original FW.

21:37:12rarogpamaury: I'm finally home, just re-compiled rockbox and am updating the firmware again.
21:38:50pamauryok, apparently even with the patch it doesn't work, so can you try to run the tool I posted after you confirm that ?

21:39:56rarogyes, just noticed that. still grey screen. :D
21:43:52rarogso I just need to compile sbloader and push the recovery.db to my fuze+, right?

21:51:07raroggood, i compiled it. do i have to connect to usb with original or rockbox firmware?
21:53:12pamauryconnect usb while hold Voulme Up to boot into recovery mode
21:53:18pamaurythen send the recovery.sb file using sbload

22:03:02pamauryok, it means you have the second kind of lcd but then I don't know why it doesn't work, I checked the init sequence against the OF yesterday (and found only one mismatch) :-/
22:04:25raroghm... :/
22:05:05pamauryone possibility is that they changed the sequence since then and the firmware I'm disassembling has it wrong but that seems unlikely
22:05:11rarogand the code correctly detects the second type of lcd and tries to send the init code?
22:05:47rarogcan you build some debug sequence to log the hardware feedback from commands into a file on fuze+?
22:07:14pamaurythere is no hardware feedback for the screen, at best I can make it write the lcd_kind to a file perhaps
22:07:47rarogTo see if the correct code is running?
22:08:06pamauryto see if the kind is correctly detected, we never know

22:09:22pamauryhum, could you try something ? Modify code and recompile rockbox ? (you won't need to touch the bootloader)
22:09:25raroglet's try it, it's better then nothing.
22:09:28rarogsure.
22:10:00pamauryin firmware/target/arm/imx233/sansa-fuzeplus/lcd-fuzeplus.c, line 384
22:10:22pamaurychange LCD_KIND_7783 to LCD_KIND_9325 and change lcd_init_seq_7783 to lcd_init_seq_9325 the line just after
22:10:38pamauryit will make the code default to your lcd kind in case it's not detected properly
22:13:15rarogyes some seconds

22:32:08pamauryI'll try to disassemble the latest version
22:32:23rarogOk.
22:32:57rarogHow long do you think i will take? I think that I'll be online for at least 1,5h more now.
22:34:51rarogDo you remember, which firmware version you took for disasm? Perhaps it really was a version before the European versions were on market and they really changed the final code.
22:37:21pamauryI don't remember
22:37:35pamauryit should be fast but I won't do it now
22:38:28rarogOk, so I'll ask you tomorrow (local time) if you could find the changes

23:01:43wodzFinally spotted part in disassm of rk27xx nand bootloader reponsible for filling missing ftl data. I looked at this function dozen of times but until now I didn't recognized what is the meaning. Now I can start the work on dualboot for this platform :-)

23:09:38pamauryok finally i've looked at the latest version and I can't find any difference in the init sequence
23:09:46pamauryi'll have a look at the enable one
23:13:20pamauryso that leaves two possibility: there is still a mistake or the two lcd don't use the same hardware parameters
23:21:26rarogyeah... sad that there are no open documentations for these
23:22:31pamauryactually for that one I might have
23:23:17pamaurybut even then, the init sequence is too complicated, I don't understand much of the lcd parameters
23:23:45pamauryI will check if the bus width match however if I can make sense of it

23:26:14raroghm... ok.
23:26:16rarogI'll test everything you need.
23:28:43wodzI guess the fastest route would be if you swap your f+ :-)
23:29:30rarogWell, don't think so.
23:29:53rarogI suspect that American and European f+ use the different displays.
23:30:07rarogSo in Europe I'd always have the 2nd type of display.
23:30:31wodzI mean exchange your f+ with pamaury
23:30:43rarogAh xD
23:31:18pamauryActually I don't know from where is mine, I bought it from second hand in France but I'm not sure the guy bought it in France
23:31:34pamauryAnd I first need to understand why it's not working

23:40:18rarogare the lcd enabling function and the one for backlight separate in the OF?

23:41:42pamauryyes, they have nothing to do. Backlight obviously works otherwise you wouldn't be seeing a grey screen
23:42:03pamaurywhat si strange is that the lcd must be enable somehow, otherwise you would be seeing garbage :)
