04:16:07BlackMoonsHey I just had the weirdest experiance
04:16:21BlackMoonsapon rebooting with my mp3 player pluged in.. my PC just got stuck at a blank screen with a cursor, flashing.
04:16:40BlackMoons... I think it was trying to boot off my mp3 player that was pluged in since it started working fine as soon as I selected boot device as my raid array..
04:17:27BlackMoonsScared the crap outta me as in a totaly unrelated event, one of my drives in the array failed and I thought my PC was $@#%ed.
04:18:05BlackMoons(using a sansa clip+ with a sd card on the player)
04:18:32BlackMoonsI wonder why it tried to boot off it? It should'nt have a valid boot sector should it?
04:18:33[Saint]You know, you can build arrays where that should be of no concern ;)
04:18:46BlackMoons[Saint]: Well its a raid5 so its only a minor 'grrr wtf'
04:19:30BlackMoonsapon reviewing the logs I found evidence of it timing out resulting in a rebuilt about 5 months ago, then another event of abunch of reallocated clusters about a month ago -_-;
04:19:38BlackMoonsI REALLY need to read my damn raid logs more often.. or get alerts working
04:20:40BlackMoonsBut yea, I know all the raid stuff is totaly unrelated... but scared the crap outta me when I rebooted to a black screen none the less.
04:20:50BlackMoonsalso got a weird CPU overtemp warning at one point..
04:20:58BlackMoonsathough my CPU heatsink was cloged to hell.
04:21:22[Saint]I'm not sure "tried to boot off" is a terribly likely explanation. "Tried to verify on startup and crapped out" seems a lot more likely to me.
04:21:41BlackMoons[Saint]: Yea ok more likey and saner.
04:21:58BlackMoonsI was wondering how on earth it would even find something that resembled a boot sector enough to try and load it.
04:22:26BlackMoonsBut yea, crashing while looking for the boot sector in the first place is more likey.
04:23:26BlackMoons(or just trying to mount it as a drive..)
04:23:52[Saint]I'm thinking simpler. A disk check was scheduled for some reason, and it just crapped out for <some_reason>
04:24:23[Saint]I'd definitely do a disc check on the drive.
04:27:59BlackMoonsOh, the drive is toast
04:28:05BlackMoonsits been acting up for months according to the logs.
04:28:35BlackMoonsIt failed to show proper status after a reboot and droped from the array but after I got it back the logs say it has 4000 reallocated clusters
04:28:41BlackMoonsand has droped from the array for no reason before
04:29:14BlackMoonsI am only rebuilding the array with it now on the off chance it holds out till I get a new drive
04:29:40BlackMoons(Athough technicaly a rebuild is stressful, its no more stressful then the weekly verify I put my array through)
04:30:31[Saint]I meant your DAP.
04:30:40BlackMoonsI don't blame the mp3 player for any of that.
04:30:41BlackMoonsDAP?
04:30:59[Saint]"mp3"
04:31:16BlackMoonsa disk check on the mp3 player?
04:31:22[Saint]Yes.
04:31:47BlackMoonsHow?
04:32:50[Saint]Google dskchk for Windows or fsck.vfat for Linux
04:34:20BlackMoonsReally? On a mp3 player?
04:34:34*BlackMoons shrugs
04:34:36BlackMoonsGuess it should work fine
04:34:52BlackMoonsbtw its chkdsk
04:35:09[Saint]Its a storage device, its vulnerable to corruption just as any other storage device.
04:35:40BlackMoonsNothing wrong according to chkdsk
04:35:59BlackMoonsBios/mp3 player incompatibility?

04:37:11BlackMoonsShit I can recall booting win2k off 4 floopys but never booting off USB.
04:37:32BlackMoons(you wanna talk about slow....)
04:40:04BlackMoonsAnyways, thought you guys might get a laugh at PC failing to boot because the mp3 player was pluged in. the CPU overheat was a little conserning since I often walk away from my PC while its rebooting.. don't think i'll do that anymore..

18:49:17bertrikrecently, as in like less than 5 years ago :)
18:49:58pamauryit fails with include failure (about system-sdl.h) which is normal because it's compiled as a target but with some defines of a simulator

18:53:56pamaurybut what is libfl ?

18:55:54bertrikwhat do people think about fs#11814 ?
18:55:55fs-bluebothttp://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/11814 calendar.rock day of week is off-by-one (bugs, unconfirmed)
18:56:45bertrikApparently it can happen that the week-of-day in the RTC of some of the ipods is off. We can fix this by always recalculating it from the date, instead of relying on the value in the RTC.
18:57:59Topic"3.11.2 released! | Please read before speaking: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IrcGuidelines | Please direct offtopic/social chat to #rockbox-community | This channel is logged at http://www.rockbox.org/irc" by ChanServ (ChanServ@services.)
18:58:05bertrikI tried to change the week-of-day on my nano 1g to the correct value. It's not like the OF puts it back to the wrong value or anything like that
18:59:41gevaertsbertrik: I think recalculating makes sense
19:00
19:00:19pamauryhum, the fat test script seems really wrong
19:04:31bertrikI just changed the date in the OF from 12 april to 13 april, but the week-of-day didn't get updated when I checked afterwards in rockbox, so I think the OF just ignores it
19:05:23bertrikor maybe the OF is indeed 1 day off with respect to the rockbox expectation, I'll check changing the date the other way (to 11 april)

19:10:30bertriknope, changing the date in the OF the other direction still doesn't update the day-of-week in the RTC, so the OF seems to ignore this value entirely
19:13:20Tornei don't think that's surprising, day-of-week is usually only actually used in the rtc for alarms
19:17:07bertrika nice thing is that we more-or-less hide a wrong dow value in the user interface (we recalculate it there), but not in the calendar plugin
19:17:25bertrikin the user interface of the set date/time settings screen
19:17:25Tornewhy do we even use it?
19:17:57bertrikto show a calendar with weekdays in the calendar plugin
19:18:07Torneno, i mean, why are we using the RTC to decide what day it is
19:18:09Torneinstead of using the date
19:18:13Torneanywhere, in anything
19:18:20bertrikI don't know
19:18:26***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
19:18:35Torneah. then we probably just shouldn't.
19:18:41Tornewe don't support setting non-daily alarms, right?
19:18:49bertrikAnd I don't really care, as long as we pick a convention, either RTC driver returns it, or we always recalculate it :)
19:18:51Torneso there's no need for it even to be set in hardware at all either
19:19:10Torneand not all RTCs are even gonna have this data, so i say just gnore it
19:20:03bertrikwe can recalculate it in the get_time wrapper around rtc_read_datetime
19:20:25bertrikin firmware/common/timefuncs.c

19:55:08Torne(serial vs usb transports, and then multiple different protocols transported within it)

19:56:59bluebrotherhmm, and it should use the correct version number inside the archive. I guess I need to give that a look :)
19:57:01gevaertsIt works well, we just need to figure out how to do naming and tags and things
19:57:05Torneit's quite possible that the head unit might actually support several *different* methods of connecting to th eipod, and we might implement *one* of them
19:57:14Tornebut it may not choose the right one, as it will probably pick based on the model detected
19:57:16gevaertsbluebrother: it probably does, if you start from a tag
19:57:20Tornenot based on which ones actually work when you try them
19:57:25gevaertsWe have it set to the branch right now
