13:14:34lukeyHi folks - Been using the Toshiba F60 port of Rockbox for many years
13:15:01lukeyBut now the interface is running slow and some folders just go back to the main menu
13:15:09lukeyI wonder if my device is faulty?
13:16:13lukeyActually I've got circular directories going on by the looks of it.
13:16:15gevaertsAs a first step, I'd try checking the filesystem for corruption
13:16:55lukeygevaerts: ok I will try this but I use linux - do you know what tool I'd need to use?
13:17:07gevaertsfsck.vfat
13:17:25lukeygevaerts: thanks, now checking
13:20:12lukeythere was a couple of " Start does point to root directory. Deleting dir."
13:20:28lukeyI've rebooted the device but the directories are still there
13:20:39lukey(and circular)
13:21:09lukeyI should probably reformat
13:22:20gevaertsHmm
13:22:45gevaertsThe fsck.vfat manpage says "If -a and -r are absent, the filesystem is only checked, but not repaired"
13:22:55gevaertsSo possibly that's the issue now
13:22:58lukeyah
13:23:12lukeyrtfm in other words lol
13:23:49gevaertsI've never really understood that. Other fscks just ask :)
13:24:15gevaertsSo I also keep forgetting
13:24:30lukeyah this time it said "performing changes"
13:25:42lukeyOh dear: loading firmware ... File not found
13:26:14lukeyI think now I will reinstall rockbox
13:26:29*gevaerts nods
13:27:02lukeywierd, my device id has changed too
13:28:44lukeyStill doesn't load firmware, let me do a battery reset
13:29:18lukeyshould i reinstall bootloadfer also?
13:29:58lukeyi will reinstall bootloader
13:30:44lukeyoh it says "a fireware file is already present on player"
13:31:03*lukey wonders if there is anything else he could be doing before he does a reformat...

13:36:18lukeywell the bootloader is there but it's still saying file not found
13:36:41gevaertsRight. At this point, I'd reformat I think
13:37:38lukeyHmm, I just got an ATA Error -11 when I unplugged the USB cable
13:37:42lukeynot seen that before

13:38:52lukey?
13:39:05lukey(Where /dev/sdd1 is my gigabeat)
13:39:33gevaertsI believe it means rockbox did an ATA reset (to get the disk back from the USB chip, in this case), and the disk is a tiny bit slower to respond than rockbox expects
13:39:38gevaertsyes, looks right
13:41:06lukeyIt's just I saw a post http://www.rockbox.org/mail/archive/rockbox-dev-archive-2009-07/0119.shtml which indicated "Special mkfs.vat options"
13:42:14gevaertsThe S is different
13:42:47lukeyok
13:44:20lukeyI'm doing all this through the cradle
13:45:01lukeyBut I will take it off the cradle now because it's saying No System Found on HDD
13:45:37lukeyRight I've got an empty 60GB Volume
13:45:49gevaertsDid you reinstall the GBSYSTEM files?
13:46:02lukeyNow doing it
13:46:44lukeyI'm using the RockBox utility
13:47:02lukeyand it is saying "Installing Rockbox Bootloader... Error accessing output folder"
13:47:08gevaertsRight
13:47:30gevaertsIIRC Rockbox Utility expects the original firmware files to be there.
13:47:55lukeyRight
13:48:01gevaertsGet the "dummy GBSYSTEM" zip file from http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/GigabeatFXPort#Improved_Boot_Time_40Optional_41 and unpack it first

13:54:43gevaertsThat doesn't sound good

13:55:45lukeyNot sure a reliable place to get this tiny drives in the UK
13:58:28*gevaerts can't really help there
13:59:26lukeyWonder if it is just some bad sectors
13:59:34lukeyMight be possible to remap them
14:00
14:00:08lukeythough if it is in the bootloader area then maybe not
14:01:29gevaertsYou can try, but modern drives do sector remapping internally to a bunch of spares, so as soon as you start actually seeing them, the drive is usually *really* on its way out

15:55:11br87I have many questions, just not sure if this is the *right place* for them... First one would be: How do I combine all my remotes into 1? (AVR-1913, WT50 TV, Bluray, Cable) ? Can I use one of those Harmony remotes to control all? :D

16:26:58mirogI have installed 240GB HDD in iRiver H10. Formatted in FAT32, I could see it under W7 as 240GB HDD. When installed inside H10 - format was not recognized, HDD was recognized as 128GB and I had to format it again. It works now, but all it seems that there is limitation of HDD capacity to 128GB. Or I did something wrong?
16:31:28gevaertsmirog: hard to say. On the H10, first a flashed bootloader runs (which we don't touch), which loads the rockbox bootloader from disk, which then loads the main rockbox binary
16:31:44bluebrothermight be a similar issue than http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/BigDisk
16:32:03bluebrotheri.e. you might need to add a second partition for the remainder of the disk
16:32:13bluebrotherthough this is just guessing on my side :)
16:32:15gevaertsYes, that should definitely work
16:32:44gevaertsIf it's the in-flash bootloader that fails, that's going to be the only practical solution
16:33:17gevaertsIf it's the rockbox bootloader that fails, a newer one might help. I think the released H10 bootloader is from before the ATA48 changes
16:33:39gevaertsOf course, I have no idea if a bootloader built from current source actually works at all...
16:34:26gevaertsHmmm
16:34:41bluebrotherhmm, would be interesting to try this. The only thing needed would be some H10 to 2.5" PATA adapter
16:35:07gevaertsDo we have multi-volume enabled on the H10?
16:35:24*gevaerts suspects we might not
16:35:25bluebrotherno idea, I guess not
16:36:45gevaertsIf the problem is the flash code, I'd say we probably should. These things have a reasonable amount of RAM so the cost is negligible, and large disks are getting quite common
16:37:48*bluebrother agrees
16:38:35gevaertsIn fact, is there a good reason not to enable multivolume on anything with say 8M or more?
16:40:18n1siirc some targets with hw usb can't handle too large disks over usb so it wouldn't be very usefull there
16:43:16gevaertsWe're talking about 2.7K RAM
16:43:53n1sthen i guess it matters very little
16:44:04gevaertsHD devices are all 16MB or more I think

17:30:06miroggevaerts: if 2 partitions would help - i should reformat HDD to 240GB again and then divide into 2 equal partitions. Problem is that i can't do that 'cause W7 doesn't see HDD formatted under H10. Is there any solution to make the disk "like new one"?
17:31:28gevaertsHow did you format it the first time?
17:38:55mirogusing guiformat.exe - it formats in FAT32 only. And a sort of adapter PATA-USB.
17:39:21gevaertsI expect you'll have to use that adapter again
17:43:27mirogAs I told: after formatting in H10 - when I take the HDD out and connect it with this adapter - W7 doesn't see the drive at all :)
17:43:46gevaertsHmmm
17:43:57gevaertsAre you sure the adapter can handle 128GB+ drives?
17:44:17*gevaerts isn't sure here
17:44:30gevaertsYou probably need help from someone who understands windows
17:45:40mirogYes. I did formatting with this adapter to 240GB and it was OK with W7. Problem started when I put preformatted HDD into H10.

22:49:14mirogNo, you've got me wrong. W7 sees 240GB while HDD is connected via PATA-USB adapter - HDD is outside H10 then.
