08:05:18wodzmeasure this I'd say
08:08:41copperhmm?
08:10:17copperbasically, that head-fier says that the lineout doesn't produce the full voltage when the volume on the iPod is set too low with the touch wheel
08:10:20coppersounds like a bug
08:11:05copperit should have zero effect on the lineout

08:21:56wodzcopper: I say again, measure this. If this is the case it is either hw or sw bug (the letter more likely)
08:23:20copperI don't have an iPod Video and the guy in question is probably clueless about such things
08:23:51copperI mean he's the guy who says one should boost the 18kHz band alone by 6-10 dB for the sound to "open up"
08:24:10copper"to hear the Rockbox sound quality", he says
08:24:56wodzah, so ignore him by definition
08:25:10copperjust because he's clueless, doesn't mean there's a bug
08:25:18copperthere's not*
08:25:29copperanother one confirms: "+1, the 5g or 5.5g has no sound from line out if the headphone volume is too low or muted.
08:25:32copperClassic 7g's line out is completely independent of the click volume control."
08:27:05wodzas far as I understand this two describe two different behaviors
08:28:26wodzthat is line out *SHOULD* be volume independent

08:40:56[Saint]copper: he's correct.
08:42:13[Saint]re: iPod 5/5.5G line out.
08:43:54copperhow come?
08:44:01[Saint]saratoga once explained it to me, but I don't recall enough details to feel comfortable about redescribing the behavior.
08:44:12[Saint]I can say it's not a bug.
08:45:06[Saint]Its non-obvious, but its not a bug I don't think. Here's hoping saratoga sees this and jumps in.
08:46:09[Saint]Torne would probably know too but I'd have to try poking him in *-community
08:50:22copperok, thanks
08:51:12coppernow they'll just play with the wiggle room to find out the right setting that makes Rockbox "really shine"

10:23:47[Saint]Sorry. :-/
10:25:04copperyour work is now in the public domain
10:26:05[Saint]Oh noes!
10:29:07[Saint]Hmmmmm.
10:29:34[Saint]ffc000, 000000 and cccccc contrast really well.
10:31:23[Saint]A couple of big solid strips of "the color Rockbox" as a header/footer for icons/UI tabs on a flat black background.
10:31:37[Saint]With large flat black media icons.
10:32:47[Saint]It looks vaguely like VLC, I guess. I still need to finish up the icons and re-do a few things for optimal code instad of just getting it functional.
10:33:23[Saint]Quite a bit more pieces of art to finish, which I largely suck at - but I'm getting there.

13:33:59xza23Hello
13:34:19xza23Anyone please help me
13:34:45xza23I've saw that rockbox has an IRC channel so I joined
13:34:56xza23I have an issue
13:34:59copperask your question
13:35:05pamauryxza23: state your problem, if anyone knows he/she will answer
13:35:16xza23the brightness of my saansa clip+ is very low
13:35:24xza23sansa*
13:36:01coppereh, I have the same problem
13:36:13xza23I tried to put the contrast to 50 and I've searched the whole internet(Google)
13:36:25copperxza23: for me, banging the clip against a hard surface like a table, fixes it
13:36:46copperI'm not responsibly for any damages your clip will incur by doing that :P
13:36:51copperresponsible*
13:37:05xza23The original firmware of Sandisk
13:37:18xza23the device give a normal brightness
13:37:22xza23gives
13:37:34xza23So I don't know what to do
13:38:33pamaurycopper: does the OF has correct brightness too ?
13:38:40pamauryif so that's a bug which should be fixed
13:39:04xza23what is OF?
13:39:11copperdunno
13:39:16copperOriginal Firmware
13:39:30xza23yea pammaury
13:39:41xza23the of has normal brightness
13:39:57xza23Rockbox on the other hand no
13:41:39xza23And one more thing how to root the device like this firmware/export/config/sansaclipplus.h
13:41:57xza23how to get into this file
13:42:34pamauryI'm not sure what you mean, this file is part of our source tree
13:43:08xza23how to get into the sound and brightness file a configuration file
13:43:27pamaurystrangely, the Clip+ defines contrast in range 0-50, but hardware can go from 0-256, and in one variant the value is actually multiplied by 5/2
13:43:31smuratxQuestion of a noob, does rockbox add flac support to Sony NWZ-E370/E380 ?
13:44:03pamaurysmuratx: yes Rockbox can read those
13:44:33pamauryhowever battery life is not as good as in original firmware unfortunately, and installation has to be done manually for the moment
13:44:33xza23how to make rockbox go till 256?
13:44:54pamauryxza23: you would need to recompile Rockbox, however I advise caution
13:45:01xza23how to do that?
13:45:05pamauryit would be better to understand why the code is like this
13:45:25pamauryhttp://www.rockbox.org/wiki/HowToCompile
13:45:41smuratxpamaury : thank you, the decision will then go to Sony instead of Sansa Clip Zip :)
13:45:46xza23I've searched all over rockbox directory and i couldn't find anything
13:45:51pamaurycommon says: * variant 0: has 132 pixel wide framebuffer, max brightness about 50
13:45:51pamaury * variant 1: has 128 pixel wide framebuffer, max brightness about 128
13:46:19 Join AlexP [0] (~alex@rockbox/staff/AlexP)
13:46:25pamaurysmuratx: personally, I don't really like the NWZ-E370
13:46:29pamaurypoor screen, no hold button
13:46:47pamaury*comment
13:46:59xza23so where is the config file?
13:47:01pamauryxza23:in firmware/export/config/sansaclipplus.h
13:47:16xza23exactly how do i get into there?
13:47:32pamauryf=firmware/export/config/sansaclipplus.h;h=0bdf82dce4daa1cad089595cbfd56eb2b18c0239;hb=0cd03c2">http://git.rockbox.org/?p=rockbox.git;a=blob;f=firmware/export/config/sansaclipplus.h;h=0bdf82dce4daa1cad089595cbfd56eb2b18c0239;hb=0cd03c2
13:47:44pamauryyou need to download the source code if you want to recompile it
13:47:59xza23and where should i putthe file?
13:48:38pamaurynowhere, you need to recompile, as explained here http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/HowToCompile, it's far from trivial
13:48:44xza23ok
13:48:56pamauryyou can't just put one file on the device and expect it to work like this
13:48:59smuratxpamaury : if put aside all facts and compare on sound quality RB+Sansa is better than RB+Sony 384?
13:49:31xza23can it brick my device?
13:49:48xza23or i could restore to the original version?
13:50:10pamauryxza23: if you only change the main binary (and not the bootloader), no it should not, you can always roll back to a previous version of rockbox or boot the OF
13:50:24xza23okey tnx
13:51:18pamaurysmuratx: I can't tell for sure, some people did test the sound quality of the imx233 (the chip inside the sony) (on another player but I expected similar results), it was good but I think the clip+ is better, zip I don't know
13:51:33pamaurycopper: do you remember some forum threads on sound quality of the clip zip ?
13:54:26xza23CrossCompiler What to choose? gcc or binutils>
13:54:28xza23?
13:55:09xza23http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CrossCompiler
13:55:58pamauryxza23: for the cross compiler, I strongly advise the automatic script (rockboxdev.sh)

14:21:12pixelmadoes the clip+ still have a brightness setting - if so maybe there is some confusion between contrast and brightness on this display (if the latter still exist)?
14:21:44pixelmait could possibly also help to see xza23's config.cfg file, I guess
14:23:52xza23I can show you the config.cf
14:23:54xza23g
14:24:15xza23but it won't help because it's already on the max
14:25:04xza23if it's possible to make it till 256 instead of 50 and making the brightness higher
14:25:42copper11:38:33 UTC <pamaury> copper: does the OF has correct brightness too ?
14:25:46copperactually no
14:25:58copperit's definitely a hardware problem for me (hence the banging on the table)
14:26:27copperalso, I don't follow Clip threads

21:27:45pamauryxza23: no one is working on the clip sport, the chip inside is too weird
21:28:55xza23so i'll disassemble the clip+ and I'll buy the sport it looks promising
21:29:21xza23do you know where I can get the sansa clip+ screen only?
21:30:10pamaurybut I'm not so sure it's a hardware problem, if it works in the OF

21:34:33_wodz_xza23: check the manual, I never used it personaly

23:26:48th_mHi, there are a couple of mp3s that don't work in rockbox. They work without a problem on my desktop PC. The files have never worked on rockbox (at least since I have the files). Just tried it again on 3.13 and the latest dev build. If there is a dev available I can share the link to the file.
23:28:01th_mI have also tried it on more than one device (e200 , clip v1,2 and clip+)
23:31:40th_mthe not working part is that the mp3s are not played at all and rockbox skips them until it finds an mp3 it does understand.
