22:28:24hobpamaury: i got the zen x-fi3 back from creative support
22:28:30hobthey fixed it
22:28:44pamaurycool, did they explain the problem ?
22:29:14hobthe guy said it was not a hardware problem and was software related. he reprogrammed the 'RAM' of the device
22:30:05pamaurydoesn't make any sense
22:30:12hobso do you think the loader got somehow corrupt?
22:30:18hobyeah it doesn't
22:30:38pamauryno that's impossible, the recovery loader is in the ROM, you cannot change it
22:31:11pamauryhowever we had a discussion and concluded that maybe the zen x-fi3 has a hardware design flaw with respect to very low battery condition
22:32:02hobthere's a newer firmware on support.creative.com for this device mentioning "Fixed charging issue via PC when battery is extremely low"
22:32:06hobmaybe related!
22:32:45hobthe prebuilt rockbox loader is based on version 1.22e i think. this is 1.25e
22:33:01hobis there any easy way to make the bootloader on windows?
22:33:19hobcuz the rockbox utility doesn't support the creative sb files
22:33:26hobas far as i tried in the past
22:34:21pamauryI would need to add support for the 1.25e, I'll try to do that tomorrow
22:34:33hobthank you :)
22:35:23hobi have installed this 1.25e version and is much better than the previous ones already
22:35:28pamauryIt's interesting, I think it explains the whole thing: the design flaw is that under low battery, you cannot boot into recovery mode, only normal mode. And this the Creative code is buggy, it immediately shuts down, even though usb is plugged. That's a very common bug in manufacturers code on this processor actually
22:35:29hobbooted so fast!
22:37:08hobwell i'm gonna keep that 'auto shutdown' function in the rockbox enabled from now on! i suggest other people do that too
22:37:28hobthe OF has a default auto shutdown too
22:37:37hobas far as i remember and saw today
22:38:05hobi think it turns itself off after 30~45 minutes of pressing no keys
22:38:09pamaurywhat is strange is that rockbox will automatically shutdown if the battery is law
22:38:16pamaury*low
22:38:27hobyeah i know, maybe crashed or something?
22:38:39pamauryyeah possibly
22:39:11pamaurybut I thought I had implemented a watchdog to reset the processor in case of lock up...
22:40:58hobrecent updates have been much better tho. haven't seen many crashes in the past few weeks of using rockbox
22:41:21hobthank you
22:42:19pamauryhob: when you say rbutil doesn't support sb file, do you mean you somehow have obtained the sb file directly from creative ?
22:42:24hobalso i remember one of the causes of crash on rockbox on this device was 'fade-in' for the display. disabling that reduced number of crashes by like 95%!
22:42:56hobit's in the exe file, i extracted it using winrar/7zip
22:43:44pamauryhum, I should check this fade-in bug then. RBUtil is supposed to extract the sb file from the exe
22:44:28hobhmm haven't tried giving it the exe file before!
22:45:31 Quit petur (Quit: Leaving)
22:46:36pamaurymaybe the messages of rbutil do not make it very clear that you should provide the exe
22:53:06hobrbutil exactly says this: "Bootloader installation requires you to provide a copy of the original Sandisk firmware (firmware.sb file). This file will be patched with the Rockbox bootloader and installed to you player"
22:53:15hobI'm gonna give the exe file to it now
22:56:26hob"Download error: received HTTP error Error downloading http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/creative/zenxfi3/bootloader-zenxfi3.creative - server replied: Not found"
22:56:29hobpamaury ^
22:56:52pamauryah yeah, we forgot to change the message for the zen x-fi3
22:57:10pamaurydownload error is weird though
22:57:32hobhttp://pastebin.com/A4E5WcF1
22:57:55pamauryyeah yeah, the file doesn't exists but this is strange, because it should
22:58:21pamaurythanks for the feedback, we have something to fix here, fortunately it's just uploading a file, easy enough
