#rockbox log for 2015-10-23

00:06:21 Join saratoga [0] (123e11e0@gateway/web/freenode/ip.18.62.17.224)
00:07:00Dextrasaratoga I have a codec issue I put in the bug tracker
00:07:06saratogai can't download the files on the flyspray page (looks like something is broken on flyspray), but if you have some random pitch and glitching errors, I'd guess its a bad player
00:07:21DextraIts not random, its consistent
00:07:30saratogaunless it happens deterministically in which case its probably a bad file
00:07:32DextraBut it could still be a bad player
00:08:02Dextrahttps://www.sendspace.com/file/7eww4m what kind of problem is this?
00:08:15saratogai tried listening to that but i don't know what its supposed to sound like
00:08:47DextraI can upload the original too
00:09:17Dextrahttps://www.sendspace.com/file/8f8by0
00:09:38DextraI just checked the disk and its repaired some errors but still has the same issue
00:10:21Dextraalso occurs in 3.1.3
00:10:45saratogatheres a slight glitch?
00:10:45DextraIts very possible I have a bad player too
00:10:59DextraCan you hear the pitch change and the glitchy sound?
00:11:02saratogai guess a frame the mp3 decoder couldn't decode or something like that
00:11:07saratogano
00:11:22DextraIt skipped to the end in the playback too
00:11:30DextraLike the progress bar
00:11:33Dextrathen went back
00:12:16saratogayou could try that file in a sim and see if it decodes ok
00:12:16Dextrait happens at 0:16
00:12:30saratogabut i don't have any other ideas
00:12:40saratogamp3 is so stable at this point i doubt its a bug in the decoder
00:13:26DextraI've heard that sound before in other rockbox builds on other clips but it wasn't common enough for me to complain
00:13:53DextraWere you able to hear it?
00:15:01saratogajust what i said above
00:15:20DextraHave any suggestions? Reinstall, etc?

14:54:00wodzpamaury: I put some comments on gerrit
14:54:12pamaurywodz: yes, I answered some of them
15:00
15:02:15wodzpamaury: I particularly don't like open() and do_open(). Names are similar, prototypes the same (putting aside public vs protected). As I understand open() is higher level then do_open().
15:02:29pamauryyes
15:02:39wodzBut this two seems tightly coupled which is not clear to me how exactly

15:04:30 Quit einhirn (Quit: Miranda IM! Smaller, Faster, Easier. http://miranda-im.org)
15:04:36pamauryI tried to explain in the comments: if you have a hwsub_device, you can to be able to open() it several times and thus have several hwstub_handle to it. But this may be impossible if you implement opening the trivial way, using libusb_open() for example. In this case, open() will only call do_open() the first time to get a handle, but it will not return this handle, it will return a proxy handle so that open() can be called multiple times
15:05:31pamaurythe point is to make it easy to add implementation: do_open() just open, doesn't have to care about muliple opens or not
15:08:46wodzI see. You see this multi handle as a case for TCP or just for future?
15:09:22pamauryyes for TCP server that's very useful
15:09:51pamauryand I think that's not unreasonable to provide this fucntionality anyway
15:10:04pamauryI ca rename do_open() if you want but I don't know to what then ;)
15:13:02wodzlowlevel_open(), devopen(), dev_open(), backend_open() BUT I am not sure any of this names are particularly better. The description should be improved anyway.
15:14:26pamaurythere are other occurences of this scheme in hwstub_handle with read/do_read, etc
15:16:45pamaurybut I'll try to improve the description
