03:21:07saratogaunboosted the Fuze+ and IRAM on ZIP are almost exactly the same speed
03:21:24saratogaboosted the IRAM is almost twice as fast as the boosted fuze+
03:21:52saratogabenchmarks on the wiki are for the old IRAM clock though, which is very close to the present unboosted one

17:15:18saratogai think test_mem needs to be expanded to also test cache, and maybe also operations without memory (e.g. Mul-Add per second from registers only)
17:20:39saratogaI'd like to add a way for plugins to disable GUI boost temporarily (it completely breaks some of the benchmark plugins because you can't control boost state)
17:21:07saratogais it appropriate to add a setting that controls GUI boost and then a function to the plugin API to set it?
17:21:31saratogaor is there a cleaner way to do that ? Its unclear to me what gets written to the config.cfg file and what does not

17:34:27pamaurysaratoga: I am not sure if test_mem is the best place for cpu only operation (because then it's unclear it can do that ?). As for boost, it is not only GUI that can trigger boost, so a setting is just impossible. I *think* it would be possible to have an API to override boost state but that needs extra (I don't think the current code allows for this)
17:35:06saratogapamaury: the main problem right now is that touching a button on some devices will boost mid benchmark
17:35:16saratogacompiling with that disabled gives good enough results
17:35:33saratogaso i'd like to just introduce an API to disable GUI boosting if a plugin needs it
17:35:34pamauryyeah but what I am saying is that GUI is just one particular source of boost
17:36:11saratogayou can mostly work around that by just unboosting at the start of a benchmark loop
17:36:15saratogawithout gui boost at least
17:36:15pamauryif you want proper benchmarking, you might as well do it properly and (temporarily) disable (or force) boosting altogether
17:38:07pamaurybecause for GUI boost that would mean creating a setting (that gets written to config) (and it might not even be trivial to create such setting) and then add an API that mess with settings only for this particular setting, I don't find it very clean

17:38:20saratogathat is what i was wondering about
17:38:31saratogathere is no way to have a setting that is not stored to the config file?
17:38:39pamauryno
17:38:52pamauryat least not that I am aware of
17:39:23saratogathe other way to do it would be to just have a function in actions.c that enables/disables GUI boost and then export it to the plugin api

18:49:15idonobIf you're looking for ROMs for the emulators in rockbox, I think you'll have to resort to google, I'm not sure that piracy is a supported topic in this room
18:50:41Guest12223no, emulators of cosole, rom is not a problem
18:51:22idonobI don't know that that's a rockbox thing, unless you're having trouble opening ROMs with the emulator /in/ rockbox
18:52:21idonobyou stated your query a little generally so I don't understand exactly what you're trying to accomplish though, I get the gist of it is to do with emulators

18:55:23idonoblast I knew those should be included in rockbox
18:55:57idonobif you long-press select on the ROM you want to open, it should give you an "open with" option which you can point to the appropriate plugin
18:56:57idonobNot all devices will necessarily support all plugins, some targets lack the right features or are just the wrong platform/have no ports made
18:57:26idonobeg the android port skips a bunch of plugins because there's better offerings in the rest of the android ecosystem or they're just not done
18:58:14idonobI don't know a whole lot more than what the docs on the rockbox.org wiki offers though; I'm just a long-time user of an e200 and a few other dead&gone DAPs

23:16:04[Saint]people expect to be able to drop in their freedoom WAD with jump, and mouse look, and 1080p texture packs.
23:16:13[Saint]then wonder why it dies hard.
23:18:00[Saint]Smartphones pretty much killed us in that regard. Even a really crappy smartphone is often infinitely more capable, and exposes more hardware than, even some topend DAPs.
23:19:17idonobAha, yeah, that was something I never did, loading oversized WADs
23:19:54idonobI've always been gobsmacked that the port exists, pretty happy I can play the original WADs
23:20:42idonobIt's neat to be able to play more graphically intense games on a smartphone, but I can't get over the lack of physical buttons on them, so they pretty much kill the gaming aspect for me there
23:21:52[Saint]I tend to view it more of a technical demonstration rather than anything actually practical or intended to be used as a means of actually playing DooM.
23:22:13[Saint]There's not enough keys to actually play the game well on any of our targets.
23:22:18idonobCan't disagree with that
23:22:27[Saint]We're off by about half.
23:23:27[Saint]need to make sacrifices between turn, and strafe, and weapon selection is cumbersome. But it's definitely good at showcasing the emulation it is doing.
23:23:42[Saint]always run or always walk is also annoying.
23:24:32idonobYeah, I remember I could manage to awkwardly get through the first three or four levels, and the controls would really bite me in the ass
23:24:51idonobmaybe more, been a while since I bothered adding the WADs to my sansa
23:25:03idonoband both my gigabeats are toast of one kind or another
23:25:24[Saint]Awwwww....man. That's a crying shame.
23:25:26idonob(anybody got a working screen for a Gigabeat F to spare? =p)
23:25:36[Saint]Is there enough to make one out of the two of them?
23:25:43[Saint]Or are you in my situation?
23:25:43idonobDifferent models
23:25:48idonobOne is an S, hte other is F
23:26:16idonobS has a dead battery and I don't trust the ZIF40 drive (want to make an SSD array from like 16 uSD cards, or just get an SSD)
23:26:40idonobF has a damaged screen ribbon cable, which if I am feeling particularily adventurous one day I might try soldering
23:27:14idonobI've used an e280 for my daily player for the last 8 years now, probably on like my 16th or 17th technically speaking
23:27:26[Saint]I have five of the fuckers, two "Beasts" (the S model), and two "Beafts" (F model) - silly Rockbox-internal naming schema - and one S model that is completely stripped.
23:27:51idonobbut I exchanged like, 5, at the store because the OF kept eating itself, eating my files, bugging out hardcore in general, before I found and converted to rockbox
23:27:55[Saint]But between them I still don't actually have enough functional hardware to build a single functional Franken-Giga-Beaf/st.
23:28:06idonob(a week later it was stolen when I was mugged, but such is life)
23:28:15[Saint]...one day, one day...I hope, maybe.
23:28:33[Saint]These days I use solid state converted iPods of varing make and model.
23:28:59idonob...After my second one was stolen, and the replacement suffered a damaged screen, I went crazy and started snapping up every e200 I could get when I could afford to
23:29:42[Saint]I have a couple of really heavily modified iPod Color/4G devices, and quite a few not-so-heavily-modified iPod 5.5G/Video and iPod 6G/Classic devices.
23:29:48idonobI have three parts players, I've exchanged my NAND once, my mainboard once (because I got tired of fixing the headphone jack), and still have two like-new players for backup
23:30:04idonobThey're the only rockbox-able device I've found locally anymore besides ipods
23:30:28idonobpeople always want more for them though
23:31:08[Saint]The iPod Color is pretty great with the massive battery and 512GB compactflash and adapter plate I have in it.
23:31:26[Saint]But I've never really been a fan of the iPod controls.
23:31:42idonobSomething between the gigabeat controls and the ipod controls seems ideal to me
23:32:19idonoba row of buttons on the side, a physical scroll wheel, dpad+select button, and radial buttons for whatever
23:32:34idonoband a physical hold switch, of course. Something lacking on almost all modern mobile devices
23:32:36[Saint]The CF adapter plate is pretty neat because it has its own microUSB port that I broke out to the outside of the case to negate the iPod/Ridax dock connector.

23:33:09idonobThat sounds pretty sweet, actually. I presume it gives you faster direct access than going through rockbox' USBhost?
23:33:15[Saint]I can use microUSB to get direct access to the CF storage, and it'll also charge the battery. It wasn't difficult to wire in, but I wouldn't do it again.
23:33:22[Saint]and, yes.
