08:10:50CH23Bilgus_: i did not replace the boot loader since i put on 3.14
08:11:36CH23and between that moment and current situation i almost never had this issue
08:12:02Bilgus_but did you install the multi-boot bootloader?
08:13:39Bilgus_if the internal memory has gone read-only then thats going to be your only option
08:17:47CH23what is the difference between the regular rockbox bootloader, and the multiboot bootloader?

08:21:40CH23_oh dear
08:24:22Bilgus_Someone suggested saving your settings to a file and loading that from the sd card as a workaround, not the best in the world but better than nothing I guess
08:24:36CH23_i was hoping this was some software issue, but it basically means the flash chip is at end of its life?

11:08:14Guest47253I am not very tech savvy, but it reminds me of it
11:08:53Guest47253the internal memory is read only and you have to put the .rockbox folder on a sd card to use it

11:13:30Bilgus_well yes but It still allows you to use internal memory If possible, you need a special firmware to boot from the SDCard otherwise it acts like normal been recommending people to put the boot loader on now so when eventually the internal flash dies it can then boot from SD or you could do it from sd card always and save your internal flash
11:14:10CH23i am so stupid sometimes. i mistook a 1gb SD card for the flash memory
11:15:02Bilgus_so is your device not read-only then?
11:15:33CH23no, i made a copy of the SD card, not the flash memory
11:16:19CH23Disk /dev/sdc: 3965 MB, 3965190144 bytes
11:16:33CH23that's all i see
11:16:58Bilgus_ah well I have an image made of the internal partition it has the multi-bootloader on it already so not strictly a OF image but a recovery image none the less
11:17:14Guest47253so the multi-boot loader can help if the internla flash is read only, but when it dies you can't boot anymore?
11:17:25CH23if i get another flash chip then i suppose that's all that matters
11:17:30Bilgus_no you can still boot
11:17:56CH23Disk /dev/sdc doesn't contain a valid partition table
11:18:01Bilgus_but see the issue is it needs to be installed before the flash goes read only
11:18:02Guest47253so this would aply for the Cowon D2 as well?
11:18:10CH23should i worry
11:18:12Guest47253I see
11:18:15Bilgus_CH23 then you have it right
11:18:45CH23oh i understood that it would be only 1GB in size
11:18:49Bilgus_when I got it into recovery mode I had the same invalid partition table message
11:18:53Bilgus_dd worked fine
11:19:13CH23 Execute "sudo fdisk -l". It should report a drive without partitions, with a size of 979.75MB (approximately, there is some 1000/1024 Bytes rounding). If it reports 4MB, your flash is broken.
11:19:24CH23^this is what's shown on the recovery page

11:21:27CH23i sort of want to attempt to nuke the entire flash and see if i can still get into recovery mode
11:22:09Bilgus_I think you might screw yourself doing that but you might try and put that image on and zero the rest
11:23:23CH23well the idea is that i have to transfer another flash chip onto the device, and that's not partitioned specifically for the clip+, so if it doesn't work, replacing the flash is of no use
11:23:58Bilgus_thats why you would partition it prior i'd think
11:24:10CH23on the USB drive itself?
11:24:16Bilgus_yep
11:24:40CH23a friend just found the datasheet of the flash memory

11:26:49CH23before i flash anything, is your backup from an old or new version clip+ ? i have the old version
11:31:49Bilgus_it says AMSV2 Variant 1 but I think they all say that
11:34:57CH23i wonder if it actually matters
11:35:13CH23apparently the radio chip is the only difference, that i know of?
11:35:28Bilgus_well let me look in the OF
11:42:51Bilgus_it says V01.02.16A in the info screen admitedly I'm not at all familar with the OF is there some other HW info screen I'm missing?
11:52:55CH23i believe in rockbox you can actually see which radio chip you have in settings > dev > fm radio
11:53:17CH23can't check myself because i have the slowest dd session of my life right now

13:17:23dongstho I guess if there was mp3s and crap on the image before its probably not very well compressable

13:17:49dongstry :) but don't hold your breath, i don';t think format actulally clears flash
13:20:40CH23i had barely anything on there
13:21:13CH23can't format it though, i don't think i could ever put anything on it again
13:22:39CH23might be good to know, my clip recently became 'read only', so i don't know how that works, if it's hardware, or firmware flag.
13:22:45dongsahh
13:23:04dongsis it 'readonly' in original firmware?
13:23:13dongsfor me when my shit croaks, it just stops booting any firmware, period
13:23:27CH23it's rockboxed
13:23:37dongsright, but you have the hold-home-to-boot-of thing right
13:24:14CH23well, it would sort of work in one of the modes
13:24:28CH23but i believe it never wrote the data
13:24:30dongsyeah. it'll sort-of-boot a couple times then finally die permanently.
13:24:46CH23yep, which is why i summoned you :P
13:25:15CH23i was thinking of replacing the flash, but you have made effort already
13:25:49CH23if you read todays logs, you can see that i did find a number of flashdrives that utilise the exact same NAND

13:30:08CH23i'll be AFK for a bit, lunch must happen.
