11:17:03JdGordon[Saint]: you use a 4k sdl build?!
11:18:00[Saint]Yup.
11:18:46JdGordonI'm reading the logs you pinged me about (as you may have guessed)
11:18:50[Saint]I think I've figured out the theory of how to do skin variable persistence in a kinda sane way.
11:19:40JdGordonare we not passed the point of trying to make it work and simply use the rockbox codecs with a native ui?
11:20:21[Saint]Just gotta stitch it together. The sane way to do it seems to be to clone settings_set/get and have them ready from a secondary config and telling checkwps to ignore it.
11:22:48[Saint]Say, 10 config values with 0~10 as parameters. Makes for enough diversity to make them useful without making the config options overly specific.
11:23:11[Saint]And...yes? It's just a metric fucktonne of work to do so.
11:24:38JdGordonI dont really have an opinion anymore. If it works I'd say go for it
11:27:59[Saint]The only real bastard is having to have the config entries predefined. That's why I learned towards them being named simply and accepting integer values that accept a neat little integer range.
11:28:45[Saint]Could either be 11 arbitrary values assigned to them, or say, disabled (0), and 10,20,...,100%
11:29:26[Saint]Enough for what *I* want to do, just questionable as to wether or not it'll end up being useful for anyone else.
11:30:04 Quit copper (Ping timeout: 240 seconds)
11:31:16[Saint]I've botched it together here by (ab)using config options that rarely get used so I could get a feel for how it'll work.
11:31:32JdGordonyou're probably the only person still using the skin system
11:32:55[Saint]You can do some pretty neat shit, like changing don't sizes from within the theme itself, changing predefined skin accent colours, opting to enable/disable AA.
11:33:09[Saint]Makes the skin itself more...app-ish.
11:33:42[Saint]And, you're likely right, though there's still a few brave souls occasionally adding to the themesite.

13:09:48pixelma__builtin (logs): I still use my Ondio from time to time and prefer it over my c200 in those cases where I just want to take a small device with me - if not I use my M5. Admittedly I haven't updated Rockbox on any of those in years, never felt that the additions for these were worth the risk of having broken builds (especially voice features seemed a bit unstable to me).

15:34:57BilgusCR0W you might want to put on the multi-boot bootloader just for the eventuality that your flash goes read-only
15:35:48Bilgushttp://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,51844.0.html
15:36:38Bilgusyou can just use the regular builds on your internal drive you would only need a special build to boot off the sd-card

15:48:24Bilguswell if your flash goes read-only thats the biggest advantage, but other than that you decrease the amount of writes to the internal flash
15:49:07Bilgusbut you can put the bootloader on now and use it with the normal firmware just like before you just have a back-up plan
15:50:21CR0WOK, I get it.

16:27:27Bilgusthe forum post list all you need but there are already links to pre-compiled bootloader and the multiboot firmware
16:28:26CR0WI understand that both a modified bootloader and fw has to be supplied?
16:28:27Bilgussee the last post if you want to comile it all your self
16:29:02Bilgusonly if you want to boot from the sdcard if you want to use it like normal you just need the boot loader
16:30:32Bilgusto clarify the boot loader looks for a special header in the firmware that allows it write back to the loaded firmware what drive it is booting from if the header is missing it only loads from the internal drive
16:32:29CR0WThanks for the explanation. Is there a chance those changes will be accepted into rb?
16:32:41 Join PurlingNayuki [0] (~Thunderbi@112.97.195.62)
16:35:06Bilgusthe plan is to eventually yes but there are a few thing to do yet for the firmware and more players that need to be added
16:36:38Bilgusright now the bootloader is done and won't change much if at all and the firmware is waiting on a file-system rewrite for the moment its pretty much just a working proof of concept
16:37:52Bilguswith the age of these players its just a matter of time before the flash goes read only so if the multi-boot bootloader is there then it allows you to continue using the player
