16:35:46miqlasI just installed rockbox to my ipod clasic 7th gen. Work ok, thanks! Keep up this good work!
16:37:00miqlasI got only one question: my headphone got a button on the cable for pause/play. It worked well with the original ipod firmware but i can't seem to get it working with rockbox. Isn't it supported? Or just buried somewhere deep in the settings?

20:17:04lebelliumI hoped for a feature not used in OF. At least Sony can argue that they can't add RDS in OF since the hardware doesn't support it...
20:17:50[Saint]copper: here, they are neither cheap, nor available.
20:17:54pamaurytrue
20:18:01[Saint]and I /really/ need a Gen1 Mini.
20:18:05pamauryI'm still surprised that there exists radio tuners without RDS
20:18:09[Saint]...and the fucking ribbon for it.
20:18:46lebelliumpamaury: it's widely used in Europe but in Japan... At least they could have tried to adapt to the local market. Even Samsung did it...
20:20:09pamauryah good point, but yeah Sony sells a lot more outside Japan...
20:21:53lebelliumwell, it's not all Sony products. My Sony AV amp supports RDS
20:22:30lebelliumbut I don't know how close or far the different audio department work together
20:22:47[Saint]Hell, here all our radio stations do album art, metadata, and lyrics.
20:22:54lebelliumif seem to work together for LDAC bluetooth
20:23:01lebelliumbut not for RDS...
20:23:05lebelliumthey seem*
20:23:09[Saint]how the hell *do* they do album art?
20:23:19[Saint]I swear I've never seen anything in RDS spec for that.
20:23:38[Saint](sorry to derail, I've always been curious)
20:23:55pamauryalbum art over RDS?
20:23:58[Saint]we get album art, general metadata, and time-synced lyrics (generally).
20:24:40[Saint]I've always assumed it was RDS, perhaps there's some other wacky system they're using? the lyrics and metadata definitely is.
20:24:58pamaurythat seems unlikely, RDS has very little bandwith, I mean *very* little
20:25:05[Saint]Hmmm.
20:25:08pamauryor maybe this is over digital radio?
20:25:22pamauryI've heard such a thing exists but in Europe it's hardly deployed

20:27:46pamauryor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_broadcasting
20:27:52lebellium"HD Radio supports a service called Artist Experience[16] in which the transmission of album art, logos and other artwork can be displayed on the radio. Album art and logos are displayed at the station's discretion and require extra equipment. An HD Radio manufacturer should pass the iBiquity certification, which includes displaying the artwork properly."
20:27:54[Saint]Hmmm, I'll have a look, thanks. I always just assumed it was RDS doing it, as my other things with RDS get the synced lyrics and metadata.
20:28:04[Saint]But only my car and my mate's car get the album art.
20:29:13[Saint]the "synced" lyrics are often quite a bit behind though, hilariously, especially in the car because the LCD scrolls *so* slowly.
20:29:19lebelliumah ok. You have a Tesla with high speed DSL connection :D

20:30:53[Saint]I did accidentally discover the other day that there's a 40GB HDD in the head unit that automagically rips any media inserted into it though. Had the bloody thing for years and never noticed it had its own storage.
20:31:18[Saint]It's all in Japanese or Korean or something so I can't figure out how to use anything but the radio and the CD player.
20:32:37lebelliumhdd in a car. Risk to break it at each speed bump!
20:33:40[Saint]That's how I found it actually, I got sick of hearing a big "thonk!" in the dash.
20:33:52[Saint]It's the HDD bouncing around in the antivibration cradle.

21:35:40[Saint]copper: Are you free to shoot the shit for a bit, regarding some esoteric theme shenanigans?
21:35:40[Saint]I need to another brain to pick, because mine's exhausted on the topic and I don't have any creativity or bright sparks of ingenuity left.

21:37:52[Saint]errrr...sorry copper, colloquialism
21:37:57lebelliumpamaury: there's some hack here g#371
21:37:58fs-bluebotGerrit review #371 at http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/371 : sansa clip+: add RDS capability for SI4702 tuners by Ryan Hitchman
21:38:16[Saint]shoot the shit == brainstorm/discuss informally
21:40:47pamaurylebellium: I don't see how it's a hack, it seems to be the standard way to poll for RDS, except Si4702 is not supposed to support RDS?!

21:44:27lebelliumpamaury: SI4703 is supposed to support RDS but not SI4702
21:44:40pamauryI know
21:45:38pamauryI seriously doubt a Si4702 supports RDS, otherwise there would be no point to differentiate between Si4702 and Si4703
21:46:30lebelliumIIRC I tested the patch some time ago on my clip+ and it didn't work but the reviewer says "works on target"
21:46:34lebelliumso I'm a bit confused

21:54:11pamaurylebellium: I can always try to enable RDS on the Sony just to check and despite the hardware saying it's not capable
21:56:11lebelliumI don't have much hope but at least we would be 100% sure
21:58:40[Saint]It's pretty difficult to believe a reviewer could get RDS functioning wrong.
21:58:55[Saint]It's a pretty obvious thing when it works.
21:58:59pamauryseems more likely his player had a Si4703
21:59:06*[Saint] nods
21:59:25pamauryI can see a manufcturer putting a Si4703 instead of Si4702 for stock reasons, but not the other way around
22:00
22:00:49[Saint]for most purposes they're largely identical SOCs, no
22:01:02[Saint]+?
22:02:12pamauryRDS is the only difference afaik
22:05:07lebelliumis this reviewer known? Is he on the channel?
22:05:33lebelliumor even the patch author
22:07:36lebelliumaccording to our wiki https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaClip there are only 2 different FM tuners on Clip+

22:07:52lebelliumif somebody found a Si4703 in it, it's a shame it was not documented
22:07:52fs-bluebotBuild Server message: Revision 1015e1f result: All green
22:13:04pamauryRDS does not seem to work on the E580, I forced it enable without luck
22:13:50lebelliumthanks for trying
22:26:02johnb3pamaury : the rockbox.log (in the root dir) does list the the tuner chip, doesn't it? If so, I can check the A25, if it is using the same or a differnt one.
22:27:04pamauryjohnb3: rockbox.log will not give you the exact one, to do so, (with HEAD), turn on the radio
22:27:19pamaurythen go to System > Debug > Radio, and give me the value of registers 00 and 01 (first line)

23:38:55__builtinis there any reason why the sim can't change the PCM sample rate?

23:46:15__builtinhmm... I might be able to port the UI simulator to run within the SDL plugin on the UI simulator
23:48:38jhMikeS__builtin: it can. it's just the SDL resampler is crap and most rates won't match. was thinking of just using our own
23:50:44__builtinjhMikeS: ok, I was curious because it'd make it much easier to debug using the sim that way
