17:05:48pamaurywodz: not really, I am too busy. Also I am trying to fix some audio issues on the sony NWZ related to ALSA
17:11:09wodzpamaury: I'll have a bit of free time this week so I thought maybe push forward something mips related
17:13:35wodzpamaury: Is this different to backlight audio interference?

17:53:09pamaurywodz: no it's the same, but I don't really know what the problem. I suspect it comes from th way we handle ALSA: we support async signal and tick task based polling
17:53:39pamauryboth of which are kinds of hacks and break down easily. So I am writing a proper multithreaded pcm alsa driver
17:55:05pamaurybecause it seems the alsa API mostly returns error synchronously, and some of the error recovery functions are probably blocking
17:57:18pamauryI suspect that when backlight is turned off, some clock is changed and maybe the audio driver reports some error because dma is inaccessible for a short while, so error handling is very important
17:57:27wodzSo you think we hit some error which blocks in recovery function. Then it recovers and when hitting error again this starts from the beginning and this produce stuttering. If so why backlight is causing this?
17:57:39 Join Jinx_Dojo [0] (Dojo@adsl-108-202-198-247.dsl.klmzmi.sbcglobal.net)
17:59:14pamaurywodz: I don't know why backlight is responsible. I thought it might be related to the cpu frequency but the kernel does not report a frequency change so I am at loss to explain it
18:00
18:00:25wodzpamaury: Maybe log errors from alsa with timestamp. With your theory there should be a stream of errors with more or less const period
18:04:40pamaurywodz: yeah I haven't tried that, however I successfully tried this: I play some music with aplay and swich backlight off. It does not stutter, and aplay is using the synchronous mode and does extensive error recovery

20:43:57pamaurywodz (logs): bad news, it seems that ALSA does not even report an error!!! For some reason I can't explain, I have the feeling that it is as if something somewhere was blocking rockbox for a short while and cause audio to simply... stop because there is no data
20:46:28pamaurythe synchronous version does slightly better than the async but stil stutters
