00:43:14et09i have a 128gb sd card and a sansa clip with rockbox installed from way back when. is it going to spontaneously combust if i put the card in or something
00:46:17Guest23090no. worst case scenario it just doesn't detect it. more likely, it will work fine
00:46:20et09i thought there was a hardware 32gb limit but i googled a little and now not sure if it was the original firmware that caused that to be a problem
00:46:28 Nick Guest23090 is now known as alexbobp (~alex@meowface.org)
00:47:24alexbobpI think it's the firmware
00:47:41alexbobpeither way though it wouldn't actually break anything, even if it doesn't work :P
00:49:02et09curious
00:49:06et09that brings me to my second question
00:49:14et09is there a better mp3 player along the same lines available today?
00:49:23et09or should i just stock up on sansa clips for the coming decades
00:56:07et09namely feather-light rockbox compatible players
01:00
01:20:18***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
01:47:10alexbobppersonally I'm leaning towards that. I'd lean towards newer clip variants like clip zip. I also really like the classic snsa fuze if you can still find those
01:47:33alexbobpthen again the original sansa clip doesn't have a microsd slot so I assume you mean clip+ or clip zip anyawys
01:48:11alexbobpbut yeah the mp3 players I've liked the most are the lightweight sansa ones, and the old ipod nanos that can run rockbox
01:48:22alexbobpbut said ipods don't have expandable memory which greatly limits their usefulness in this day and age
01:49:41alexbobpand also some of the classic ipods, you can upgrade their crappy little hard drives by replacing them with compactflash cards because they have the same pinout
01:50:00alexbobpbut those things are bulky so up to you if that's a viable option. and I've known them to have mechanical issues with the clicky wheel

02:43:21et09you mean the pack-of-cards sized ipods?
02:44:09alexbobpyeah :P
02:44:21et09blech yeah
02:44:22alexbobplike I said it's a longshot, really I'd say sansa is tops
02:44:23et09not my fav
02:44:30et09sansa fuze huh... better than clip?
02:44:56et09i'd honestly use my phone except i broke the headphone port, and it's nasty to repair
02:44:57alexbobpwell it depends what you want. if you just care about audio playback, not really, but it just has a rather nice screen for what it is
02:45:21alexbobpon the sansa fuze you can somewhat comfortably play with the gameboy emulator and stuff, and watch videos :P

12:16:50evilwombatBilgus, to give you an update - with your patch to disable DIRCACHE in playlist handling, I have not seen any oversized playlist issues
12:21:17evilwombatAlso, for anyone who's interested, I've got a trip report on doing the CF card mod using modern cards on iRiver H120 / H320 targets:
12:24:48evilwombatSanDisk 64GB "Extreme" (ugh) card - did NOT work for booting H1xx or H3xx (bootloader throws an ATA error). However, if Rockbox is running from flash ("rombox"), this card works fine. Only tested this on H120 because H340 does not support rombox. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NUB2RPW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
12:27:26evilwombatKingston 128GB CF card - seems to work fine in Bootloader and Rockbox on H340. Note that there are links to modified H3xx bootloaders on the CFCardMod wiki page - these are OLD and result in occasional illegal-instruction traps during boot. The bootloader that used by the top-of-tree version of the Rockbox works fine with this card. Have not tested on H120 but plan to try it, once all my stuff is done copying. Link: https://www.
12:27:26evilwombatamazon.com/gp/product/B07M5M5KYZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
12:29:03evilwombatTranscend 32GB - tested very briefly but seemed to work on H320 and H120 (from bootloader and from rockbox). Can test this card more if someone is interested. Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012Q2PD6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
12:31:31evilwombatNone of these cards worked with the stock iriver firmware (eh, whatever) but for the 64GB option above, I needed *a* working card or HDD in order to boot rockbox and flash rombox in the first place. After that it's fine. I've been using the bootloader_h120_7pre4.zip bootloader from IriverFlashing on H120. I imagine the 64GB card would fare better on a more recent version of the bootloader.
12:31:55evilwombat... without having to resort to rombox. But I haven't got JTAG so I'm not going to risk it

12:50:50Slasherievilwombat: i have heard that the current git repository version of the iriver bootloader could be faulty (but i have not tried that). In order to test that without JTAG (be prepared to use it anyway), target/coldfire/crt0.S should be examined carefully at first to see if there has been any changes in past few years (after -7pre4) build that could render the "reset cookie" feature inoperable.
12:50:52SlasheriAfter a careful examination has been made, original factory firmware should be flashed alongside with rockbox bootloader build. If bootloader fails but reset cookie failsafe mechanism is functioning, the device will boot back into original iriver firmware and you can try fixing bootloader and try again

12:54:20evilwombatSlasheri, thank you. Since I'm lacking JTAG, I think I'll stick to -7pre4, and just swap in the 128GB card that is compatible with this bootloader
