14:09:33lebelliumsimpleOne if you're referring to your question about custom WM1 fw yesterday, you definitely need pamaury here as he's the dev with technical knowledge. I still have so instructions from him about how to extract the fw UPG file with nwztools/upgtools
14:10:13lebelliumBut I don't think it will work with an encrypted firmware
14:12:05pamaurywhat was the question? I must have missed it

14:13:49lebelliumhello btw, it has been a long time :)
14:14:11simpleOnepamaury [18:16] .: simpleOne :.pamaury: I've seen that someone popped up a few months ago with a few modded firmwares for the sony NW-WM1A/Z. He claims that his custom FWs sounds better but refuse to release any technical informations. So... I've tried to reverse them but no luck :/ I've succesfuly unpacked the .upg with binwalk but that binary file is encrypted. I've read a lot of tutorial, also tried the
14:14:11simpleOne 'auto-decrypt' tools like cipher but
14:14:12pamaurylebellium: hey :) indeed ^^
14:14:12simpleOne[18:16] .: simpleOne :. I can't get it so at this point, I need some help :) (I'm french so u can pm me if u prefer to discuss "en français" Cheers

14:14:36pamaurysimpleOne: unpacking a firmware should be straightforward with nwztools, especially if you know it has been repacked by someone else
14:15:59lebelliumthe old instructions I have from you: https://www.rockbox.org/irc/log-20170128 15:49
14:16:18pamaurysimpleOne: binwalk will be useless here, but we have tool to unpack stuff: go to https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWDestTool
14:16:27simpleOnepamaury, well, I unpacked it but I've this fucking encrypted upg, I'm not sure if It's the Sony encryption or the model encryption
14:16:29pamaurydownload the upgtool (at the bottom), either linux or windows

14:17:28simpleOneI'm gonna try anyway :D I didn't know this tool, thanks guys
14:17:38pamaurysimpleOne: once you have upgtool, you unpack by running
14:18:26pamauryupgtool -e -m nw-wm1 the_firmware.upg -d firmware_file_
14:18:46pamauryhere "firmware_file_" is just a prefix that will be added to the output names
14:19:09simpleOneawesome, I'm gonna try this and will let you know
14:19:18pamaurytypically the first file (0.bin) will be bash script that unpacks stuff. One of the file (can't remember which one), will be a filesystem image containing all the files
14:21:43simpleOnewill try tomorrow :)) Thanks

16:42:31lebelliumpamaury: yep, thanks for your help. Unfortunately I can't do much with the extracted .bin files. As you already noticed in the past, the WM1 generation uses a different fw format and encryption compared to the older Sony devices
16:44:28pamaurylebellium: what do you mean? The bin files are not encrypted
16:44:44speachyewww, the erosq/etc has no volume control through the codec.

16:48:02speachydo we have a notion of soft volume control?
16:48:17pamauryspeachy: what do you mean ?
16:48:47speachyas in rockbox scaling the PCM output versus the hw codec doing it for us
16:48:49pamauryyou mean entirely done in software ? Then yes if I recall
16:48:59speachyjust trying to figure out what it's called
16:49:07pamauryah, give me a minute to find out
16:50:56lebelliumpamaury Hum I extracted the UPG file for NW-A20 with upgtool. I got 3 .bin files. I extracted the biggest one (54 MB) with binwalk and then got the whole roottfs content. When doing the same thing with the biggest .bin file for NW-WM1 (108 MB), Binwalk produces files in a loop. More than 20 GB if I can't stop it! Maybe it's just an issue with binwalk
16:51:19speachyHAVE_SW_VOLUME_CONTROL, apparently
16:52:38pamauryspeachy: I think it's called the prescaler
16:57:06pamaurylebellium: don't use binwalk, those are actual filesystem/disk images
16:57:56pamauryah and yes sorry, some might be compressed, I forgot to tell you that
16:58:24pamauryyou need to pass -z <idx> to uncompress
16:58:43pamaurylike -z 1 for the 1.bin file, -z 2 for the 2.bin
16:59:00pamaury(the format is dumb, there is no way to know if it's compressed unless you try it)
