05:04:35johnb7edhelas I recall a similar message (about reverted patches) and questions what should be done with it. Unfortunately I don't recall in detail what I did afterwards. I believe I have added a few more packages listed on https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Windows10CrossCompiler. The reqpackages list in rockboxdev.sh is not accurate if you base on a bare Ubuntu 20.04 (I don't feel comfortable updating it myself due to my
05:04:35johnb7 limited knowlege on this). Anyhow, at some point in time starting the build from scratch I succeeded. I am sorry to be that vague, I just wanted to tell you I believe I faced the same issue.

08:35:40ArsenArsenwait, the 128GB limit on some models is a hardware one?
08:37:02ArsenArsenwhen plugged up to a PC it reports 232GiB
08:37:17ArsenArsenI guess that's because the ATA commands or whatever are just passed through?
08:37:53ArsenArsenah no, it's partitioned oddly
08:38:00ArsenArsenthere's a 127GB partition and a 192M partition
08:38:06ArsenArsenis that so that the OF can boot?
08:38:53ArsenArsensdd 8:48 1 232.4G 0 disk
08:38:55ArsenArsen├─sdd1 8:49 1 127.8G 0 part
08:39:06ArsenArsenactually, restore might've done that
08:43:02***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
08:43:53ArsenArsenbrb
08:57:17braewoodsArsenArsen: it's dependent on whether LBA48 support is present
08:57:28braewoodsif it is then the limiter is the partition table
08:57:50braewoodsin some cases though RB might be able to go even higher if GPT support was present
09:00
09:10:24gevaertsIs that actually a practical concern yet? 2TB is a lot...
09:12:50 Quit prof_wolfff (Ping timeout: 272 seconds)
09:24:09_bilgus__ speachy I found the 2bit error, now I just need to fix it and keep it from breaking the others
09:45:31_bilgus__Whats funny is it was a patch to fix ipods
09:45:35_bilgus__https://github.com/Rockbox/rockbox/commit/41e1aa888b9d1fc41aaf158191980cce3e548302
09:46:54_bilgus__the stride was hardcoded for some reason to presumably handle lcd_bmp since it was passing the wrong stride
09:58:18braewoodsgevaerts: indeed.
09:58:44braewoodsgevaerts: but it's kinda chicken or the egg. it depends on the early bootloader whether it can work and such.
09:59:15braewoodsgevaerts: you can boot Linux from GPT on non-UEFI PCs but it works because of how the MBR bootloader works
09:59:42braewoodsin short if you can't find a way to boot from the fake MBR you can't boot from GPT
10:00
10:01:25braewoodsbut realistically i've never owned a single storage device over 1TB
10:01:37braewoodsmy server is a 4 way mirror of 1TB disks

11:04:22_bilgus__it is weird after I fixed the logic in core now lcd_2-bit Vert now doesn't display bitmaps properly easy enough to hack around but I'm not understanding why
11:05:02_bilgus__the ssue was 2bit h..
11:08:04_bilgus__maybe some bitmaps have the proper stride already calculated hmm
11:11:08_bilgus__nope not that either
11:24:00_bilgus__haha one more bug down I was clearing the main fb when remote clear was called pretty sure I introduced that one
11:25:49_bilgus__no to check all the other targets seems to be a reoccuring theme fix one break all the rest
11:25:54_bilgus__now*
11:59:06ArsenArsenbraewoods: present in what? the iflash solo should support it (and, again, linux is able to utilize the full storage)
11:59:56ArsenArsenI assume the ATA slave/device/whatever would need to know about it
12:00
12:00:09braewoodsArsenArsen: i'm not 100% certain myself. but the 128GB limiter is from pre-LBA48 limitations.
12:00:21ArsenArsenI don't see what else inbetween could impose a limit frankly
12:00:30ArsenArsenespecially since, again, over usb it reports the full size
12:00:30braewoodsRB supports LBA48
12:00:36ArsenArsenI know that
12:00:43ArsenArsenI forgot my USB cable though...
12:01:03braewoodsbut i guess what they mean is the OF doesn't support LBA48 in some cases
12:01:39braewoodsonly real way to know is to try using something beyond 128GB
12:01:59braewoods128GB is the maximum safe value
12:02:16braewoodsbut i can't say i've needed that much even.

12:04:42ArsenArsenI do think it's because of how iTunes formatted the card

12:08:14ArsenArsenMB147
12:08:31ArsenArsenyes, but I am thinking that is an OF limitation, and a limitation of the *original* hard drive, but not of an adapter

13:56:27_bilgus__speachy I was able to repro but not quite in the manner he said
14:00
14:00:08_bilgus__oh with backlight exemptions it is different but from default cfg it does exactly as he explains
14:00:27speachyI think I have a stock setup on my other ingenic targets
14:00:42speachyhow else did you trigger it?
14:00:44_bilgus__speachy there are targets that use a timer to fade the backlight in and out is it stealing your timer?
14:00:57_bilgus__I just fixed timers
14:01:10_bilgus__timers that would have been disabled
14:01:34speachyall of these ingenic targets use identical backlight stuff. IIRC it's purely systick-driven
14:02:32speachythere's no target-specific timer stuff going on for these things.
14:03:16_bilgus__if backlight exemptions are on then the first press resumes playback and it doesn't fail till the screen is turned on again
14:03:39_bilgus__if LCD>Firstkeypress = true no issue
14:03:55_bilgus__the screen is already on by the time PB state changes

15:12:30vvrngscreen is completely black and I've tried flashing the stock firmware with dd but it didn't really change anything
15:13:32johnb7Do you have a recent bootloader on it?
15:13:43vvrngI've been following the sansaamsunbrick guide from rockbox.org
15:14:46vvrngI guess I do!
15:15:06vvrnglatest stable bootloader i think, however, it's been a few months since I was tinkering with this device
15:15:43johnb7you can try to boot from SD.
15:17:36vvrnghow often does the screen die on these things?
15:18:00johnb7this is not the screen, but the flash dying.
15:18:26vvrngit doesn't mount the sd card unfortunately...
15:18:37johnb7do you hear a sound on your headphone if you turn the player on?
15:20:12johnb7see https://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipplus/rockbox-buildch13.html#x15-36600013.3.2 for booting from SD.
15:20:16vvrngatm the battery is removed
15:23:25johnb7you can still try with a wall charger and usb cable.
15:29:04braewoodsor any other 5V supply
15:29:15vvrngI'll try with my powerbank
15:29:45braewoodsi've used usb to barrel jack adapters before. nice cheap solution for some devices.
15:29:51vvrngI still think the screen might just be defective since it sometimes works if I press it
15:30:23braewoodsvvrng: if it's this borked up, maybe it's time to retire it?
15:31:32vvrngbraewoods: possibly, since i have a working ipod
15:31:40vvrngstill, it's so qt
15:31:46braewoodsqt?
15:32:22vvrngit's a cute little device which I'd like to use from time to time
15:32:40vvrngand also, prices for them have gone crazy since they don't make them anymore
15:33:32johnb7if it works every now and then, then definitely try multiboot before the flash corrupts even more.
15:35:06vvrngidk, i think it's pretty borked...
15:35:31vvrngit was worth a final shot!
15:35:58vvrngI just wanted to make sure it's not the screen that's dead

22:51:15_bilgus__I'm unsure where to start what do you do start tromping through the host?
22:51:24_bilgus__adb..
22:55:25braewoodsspeachy: i've owned a few usb cables in my time and sometimes they come with these cylinders near the ends, mostly with mini usb 2.0
22:55:31braewoodsspeachy: any ideas what those do?
22:55:49_bilgus__that is a ferrite core
22:56:01_bilgus__they are used to cut down EMI
22:56:15braewoodsI see. i thought the sheathing was supposed to do that.
22:56:18speachyespecially common with wifi adapters and other things like that.
22:56:27braewoodsthis is just a usb 2.0 cable
22:56:34_bilgus__and some are real and Ive gotten others with an empty casing
22:56:48braewoodsi thought it was a capacitor or something
22:56:50speachyit acts as a big inductor
22:56:57braewoodsi didn't know why it was there
22:57:09_bilgus__they have them on power cords sometimes too
22:57:40speachyit works both ways; prevents EMI going out but also helps mitigate stuff coming in
22:57:41_bilgus__typically power supplies have several once in the pc too
22:58:17_bilgus__any piece of wire in space becomes an antenna based on wavelength
22:58:30braewoodsinteresting.
22:58:31_bilgus__start pushing power it radiates
22:58:35speachy_bilgus__: a good start would be to turn on adb in the loader, then log in and run strace against the rockbox binary, get it to fail and see if anything intereting shows up
22:58:42braewoodsone of the H320s that i receive charges over usb the other doesn't appear to
22:58:42_bilgus__start reading it recieves
22:58:52*braewoods shrugs
22:59:56_bilgus__still get the USB unplug PANIC mount 0
23:00
23:00:45speachycan you confirm in the debug hwinfo menu what the bootloader version is?
23:03:33_bilgus__edbdef 201018 grabbed it from DRO
23:03:50_bilgus__this was in the FW though
23:04:13_bilgus__or does the BL affect that too
23:05:10speachythe hwinfo menu reads a file left on the hostfs
23:07:44 Quit cockroach (Quit: leaving)
23:07:46_bilgus__no I mean the crash was
23:08:27speachywell, it's not the BL itself per se, it's the changes made to the hostfs when the fw image was patched with the BL.
23:08:37_bilgus__ah got ya
23:09:10speachythat mount panic should have been completely solved by the changes I made to the 20181018 prepatched images
23:09:13_bilgus__ok so you said log in are there credentials?
23:09:23speachynope, 'adb shell' gives you root
23:09:35speachy(assuming you have the android adb stuff installed..)
23:09:44_bilgus__i do
23:12:45_bilgus__ok last hint where is the rb bin?
23:13:10speachyps |grep rockbox, strace -p pidnum
23:13:58speachyctrl-C will break
23:15:08_bilgus__Oh I guess I was suppose to start rb lol
23:15:16speachyyeah, that helps. :)
23:17:13speachyI have a very hard time seeing how these timers could interfere with audio playback
23:18:41speachythe systick and "user timer" use the same mechanism to run and fire, one wouldn't fail without the other being equally broken, given that the ALSA SIGIO fires many, many times per second to refill things
23:22:28speachybut the backlight is the only timer user in the core
23:23:30speachy... so.. why does the backlight gets its own timer, and not piggyback on the systick stuff?
23:27:05speachyand if I'm reading this correctly, the hw timer's not used at all on sw-controlled fading.
23:27:12speachyie on these targets.
23:27:54speachyyep, it's not the system timer at all.
23:28:22speachywhich points back at an audio driver bug.
23:29:17speachy_bilgus__: don't bother with the strace crap. edit firmware/target/hosted/pcm-alsa.c and uncomment LOGF_ENABLE. Then do a LOGF-enabled build
23:29:33speachyrun it, get it to fail, then see what's in the logf buffer.
23:31:20_bilgus__oh I was already looking through the strace
23:32:08speachymost likely the heavy filesystem activity involved in when the fading is going on is causing an underrun condition in the playback, which isn't being recovered from properly.
23:32:57_bilgus__ioctl(11, SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_START, 0xe2b610) = -1 EBADFD (File descriptor in bad state)
23:32:57_bilgus__−−- SIGIO {si_signo=SIGIO, si_code=POLL_IN, si_band=65} −−-
23:33:27speachyone of those is normal when playback starts
23:33:52speachy(we get the error, and alsa starts playing back as if it was fine)
23:34:02speachy(because reasons)
23:37:06_bilgus__in taht case I don't see anything funky https://pastebin.com/ntZ6xPu7
23:37:17_bilgus__I'll try logf next
23:46:14_bilgus__its too bad the fade routine can't be done on a slightly less FS intensive basis
23:46:36speachywe have to write to a sysfs file. :/
23:46:51speachysame for detecting the headphone/etc state
23:47:14speachythough I wonder..
23:48:49_bilgus__like drop a helper binary on there
23:48:54 Quit koniu (Remote host closed the connection)
23:49:21 Join koniu [0] (~koniu@gateway/tor-sasl/koniu)
23:50:17speachyif we could issue an ioctl against the open fb device that would be much faster
23:57:21speachyfor things like polling headphones etc we can switch to having mdev signal us if something interesting changes (so we can avoid constant polling)
