19:15:28speachywhat actually broke was the antivirus scanner. silently.
19:28:30braewoodsspeachy: how much spam does rockbox actually see?

19:30:23braewoodsi just found the most effective anti spam for personal accounts was moving away from free email
19:30:24speachybut over 90% of what comes into this server is spam.
19:30:31speachyor spam attempts, anyway.
19:30:53braewoodsit dropped to 0 and haven't gotten any spam in 2+ years
19:31:12braewoodsmakes me believe the real person selling my email was my email provider

19:31:28braewoodsah, that too
19:31:52speachyI'm watching the mail server logs. dictionary attacks of account names
19:32:12braewoodsnone of my accounts are dictionary words so that probably helps
19:32:22braewoodsplus my email provider is paid, part of my DNS service
19:32:31mendel_munkisI get a lot of spam to my non-free email
19:32:33speachyplus opensource contributions
19:32:42braewoodsah, i guess it means something else then

19:32:53mendel_munkis(probably due to being listed on a debian webpage)
19:33:02speachybut as a server operator, keeping email working is an endless slog.
19:33:16braewoodsspeachy: yea, part of why i moved to paid email
19:33:19 Quit _bilgus (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
19:33:20braewoodssolves most of my spam issues too
19:33:27speachyI'm too much of a paranoid git for that
19:34:00braewoodsi use a canadian provider for what that's worth
19:34:01braewoodslol
19:34:06speachythe joy of self-hosting. :)
19:34:31braewoodsdo you actually need DKIM? my provider doesn't use it, at most SPF
19:34:53braewoodsthey do provide DNSSEC but not DKIM
19:35:21speachyspammers were the first to actually make real use of SPF
19:35:32braewoodsthe irony
19:35:52speachybut DKIM, for its complexity, does a good job at preventing address spoofing.
19:35:56braewoodsSPF is only good for hindering impersonation attacks
19:36:21braewoodsit won't stop people using domains they control for spam
19:42:14speachyeverything's fully operational again.
