13:30:24_bilgus_ g#5549 Ok so this is the first working version that handles redirected roots and even folders it needs cleaned up and organized yet and lots of testing but this works it allows you to build the database and playlists from the sd card and use them from a version running on internal
13:30:27rb-bluebotGerrit review #5549 at https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/5549 : [BugFix] Multiboot Database duplicate files WIP by William Wilgus
13:31:17_bilgus_it hides whatever is mounted now unless you've redirected to a folder in the sdcard
13:32:00_bilgus_and while not done I got it in before 2024 :0 (except a few places)
13:35:53_bilgus_it just keeps track of the real path and uses it when needed (file browser/ database/ playlist) pretty much anything you take a path to needs to be the same wherever you are running from this should ensure that while keeping the same feel in the browser to the user

18:00:31tm512oh. seems like it has an idle timer and goes into a complete shutdown when that timer elapses. I can't say I really like that
18:01:02tm512with the OF going into sleep mode, I can just flip the hold switch off and the device instantly springs back to life ready to use. I don't have to wait for it to boot up
18:01:48tm512also, seems rockbox's bootloader completely prevents me from booting into OF. it just boot loops when the hold switch is engaged

19:11:29tm512had to use ipodpatcher to write one of the firmware upgrade images in order to get back to OF though now rockbox is obviously inaccessible
19:13:40tm512would love to know why rockbox's bootloader wouldn't load the OF. at this point I almost feel compelled to stick with rockbox to justify buying an actual CF card even though my first impressions so far are pretty disappointing, particularly with the lack of a sleep mode
19:15:57tm512also curious to know whether the database browser bogs down the more tracks I have because it's already quite sluggish with a little over 200 songs. guessing getting this CF card installed would speed it up a little bit but browsing is basically instantaneous in OF
19:44:42speachy...rockbox is not the ipod OS. it does not try to be or otherwise mimic the ipod os, beyond being a DAP, anyway.
19:45:42speachythere's a screen-off itle timer, and a longer auto-poweroff timer. when in playback, the system won't power down.
19:46:13speachyboth of those timeouts are configurable in the UI, IIRC.
19:47:19speachythere are also folks who use the DB with several thousand tracks.
19:47:45speachybut recent-ish dev builds are a _lot_ more performant than the 3.15 release.
19:49:29speachyif there's a boot loop when trying to go into the OF, did you wipe the OF partition?
19:49:31tm512I'm using the latest daily. says it's a build from dec 23rd I think. I'm not seeing any kind of timer for turning the screen off, just the backlight. the screen itself will stay on until the power off timer elapses
19:51:42speachy(on the 6g and nanos, the OF is in flash, but on older generations, it's stored in a hidden partition on the drive)
19:53:22tm512regarding the power off timer, I'd prefer not having to wait for rockbox to boot every time I set the device down for more than just a few minutes though, so now I'm wondering how rockbox's idle power consumption (no music playing, backlight off, but screen kept on) compares to the OF's sleep state
19:53:42tm512I didn't wipe the OF partition. I just ran ipodpatcher as the manual told me to
19:55:55tm512this forum post suggests that code to turn the mini's screen off wasn't added because turning the screen off made a negligible impact on battery life, but I'm guessing the OF is doing more than just turning the screen off when it goes to sleep
20:00
20:12:29tm512if it gives any pertinent info, this is the output from ipodpatcher when installing the bootloader: https://termbin.com/np4l

22:09:49tm512I guess I will try some of these other boot partition configurations outlined in https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodPatcher#Advanced_Rockbox_install_methods_with_ipodpatcher to see if any of these fix the broken dual-booting. method 2 in particular, speeding up rockbox's boot time, seems appealing if I'm gonna have to wait for rockbox to boot basically every time I use the iPod
22:10:56tm512I'm still hoping that the CF card will end up being quicker overall than the microdrive, but to minimize how many times I have to crack this thing open I'm waiting until I get a replacement battery before installing the mod
