09:52:30masqhave a weird issue on the surfans f20 w/ firmware 2.5. can play files (both flac and mp3) just fine in the stock firmware but on rockbox, selecting any file causes it to rapidly skip through all the files in the folder, so i suppose it's not even able to load them for some reason? everything else seems in good order but i couldn't find any info
09:52:30masqonline about a glitch like this, so a bit flummoxed. appreciate any help, thanks!

10:52:40amachronicmasq: this is just a wild guess, but it could be related to album art embedded in the file
10:53:44amachronictry stripping it out
10:53:53masqamachronic ill try it and see, thanks for the idea
10:54:10amachronicif that doesn't work, I can try to reproduce if you can share one of the files.
10:54:31_bilgusive seen that before with bad playlists
10:55:22_bilgusmasq, is this a fresh install?
10:55:47masqyeah installed from the daily build released yesterday
10:56:17_bilgustry an older one just in case I broke something
10:56:25_bilgusgive me a moment
10:56:46masqwill try that too. ive had older releases on this same device before w/o this problem
10:57:09masqand i dont think embedded album art was a factor then
11:00
11:01:01_bilgusI think thats the erosq builds −− https://download.rockbox.org/daily/aigoerosq/rockbox-aigoerosq-20240323.zip
11:01:28_bilgustry that one

11:28:54masqsame issue with the 20240323 build, so ill try the album art thing now
11:34:28_bilgusso the way our playback system works now everything becomes a playlist behind the scenes if album art doesn't work could (in the latest dev version) try building a playlist saving it and see if you can play that if not could you pastebin a few lines from the playlist file and the control file, one should be found in the Playlists dir and the other in the root of the .rockbox folder (need to set file view to show all)

11:35:09_bilgusto clarify a few lines from the playlist and the whole control file
11:35:25amachronicalso, if you know roughly the last build that works that would help

11:38:00_bilgusamachronic as far as I've observed no ill effect off those multiboot v1 patches IDK if bahus tested them but you might as well push them I think and we'll see if anything shakes out
11:38:40_bilgussince we are already messing with bootloader stuff..
11:39:17amachronicyeah makes sense, I think bahus did check those since you asked
11:39:20masqcan i build a playlist from the Files view on rockbox?
11:40:19_bilgusmasq yes
11:40:47***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
11:40:57_bilgusbrowse to the folder context menu add to playlist
11:41:09_bilgusadd to new
11:41:12_bilgusname it
11:42:40_bilgusbad part is these are all essentially the same family so the other 2 or 3 are still slightly questionable
11:43:09masqok made a test playlist with one song and have same issue
11:43:37masqalso seems to have difficulty initializing a database, if thats any clue
11:43:52_bilguscould you open that in the file viewer and type the line(s) you see in that playlist please?
11:44:38_bilgusbrowse to it context menu.. open with.. text_viewer
11:45:25masqi get a can't open error
11:45:31masqmaybe this is a weird permissions thing
11:45:44_bilgusthats on the device?
11:45:55_bilgusoh this is hosted
11:47:11_bilgusrb has no concept of permissions but the underlying OS likely does
11:47:16masqah i looked at the error message closer
11:47:23masqit actually cant even find the text_viewer program
11:47:36masqor just can't open it, at least
11:47:37_bilgusso a path issue then
11:48:32masqim just getting the zip and unzipping its entire contents into .rockbox in the root of the SD card, thats correct right?
11:49:14_bilgusrename your old .rockbox folder
11:49:30masqi made sure to do that beforehand, that shouldnt be the issue
11:49:40_bilgusok just double checking

11:50:10_bilgusso that build I had you run is like a week before I messed with this path stuff
11:52:07_bilgusI don't have time today but would you mind creating a post on the forum so I or others can follow up with you in a few days? if you can identify a good build or we can do a git bisect and have you run 5-20 builds and find the issue
11:52:38masqhttps://imgbox.com/4iL5nI6p
11:52:46masqthats the expected path
11:52:50masqin case its any help
11:53:06masqi can check if it actually exists, one sec
11:53:53_bilguswell unfortunately we've made everything that you could actually use to check a plugin
11:54:23amachronicyou can always just transfer the files off with USB and check them on a computer
11:55:12_bilguswouldn't really show what rb was seeing though, but that error message does help at least the path is sane that its trying to open
11:55:29masqhuh, the .rockbox/rocks directory is totally empty when i check sd card on my laptop
11:56:34_bilgusI've seen this happen before with bad sd cards but usually creating a new folder pushes it to a good part
11:57:05masqhttps://imgbox.com/YD4IKbmJ
11:57:10_bilguswell masq try doing the install on a fresh folder with your laptop
11:57:15masqand i get this nonsense on the Playlists directory
11:57:25masqi hope its not the sd card itself, literally bought it last week
11:58:07_bilgusis it really high capacity>
11:58:10_bilgus?
11:58:23masq256GB
11:58:28_bilgusfrom amazon and slightly cheap but not too cheap
11:58:40masqbought from best buy. it's sandisk
11:58:51amachronicthat '???' seems like a broken sd or you corrupted the filesystem
11:58:56_bilgusoh then prob legit but could always be a bad sd
11:59:18masqyeah idk why its funky with the Playlists folder, but i can play the files fine on stock firmware which is what gets me
11:59:45amachronicdoes it happen to be exFAT?
11:59:56masqyes, i did format exfat
11:59:58masqis that a no no?
12:00
12:00:04_bilgusding ding?
12:00:18amachronicI remember someone had a problem with special characters on exFAT because linux handles them inconsistently.
12:00:36amachronicit will allow you to do things that RB might choke on iirc
12:00:47masqam i force to use fat32? lol
12:00:51masqthat would make sense, i guess
12:01:36amachronicor maybe it was different behavior between exfat-fuse and in-kernel exfat confusing each other
12:01:39masqor i could pop it in a windows pc and format exfat there?
12:01:59amachronicI'd just use fat32 if you can, since exfat brings no advantages for rockbox
12:02:40masqok, i have a feeling this is where the issue. thanks for helping out, ill report back though

15:05:32_bilgus'clipv1, c200,e200,m200 all were removed due to space constraints in the firmware image' possibly I just didn't have anyone to test the changes
