01:06:21_bilgus_it seems to work just fine little nausea inducing if you do the solver but otherwise no crashes, only does usb plug if its in the menu but thats not too bad

10:01:54_bilgus_well, lets fix that
10:02:37speachyhopefully this will stay green. :D
10:02:47_bilgus_lets get this thing its drivers license!!
10:02:49speachyI didnt' add a full set of target screenshots
10:03:28_bilgus_I think theres enough reprensentation in there they should get the gist
10:03:57speachyyay, first "major" patch out of the backlog

10:17:49_bilgus_aww too big for the clip
10:18:20_bilgus_I can't imagine that it would run very well on there even if it did fit
10:18:53speachy_bilgus_: here's another one: g#134
10:18:56rb-bluebotGerrit review #134 at https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/134 : New plugin: Picross by Nathan Korth
10:19:09_bilgus_In that case maybe they didn't push it because at the time they had few targets capable of running it
10:19:11speachyit's written in lua
10:19:33_bilgus_oh that should be fun lua sucks to debug lol
10:19:56speachyhuh, are the clip and m200 the only 2MB targets left?
10:20:42_bilgus_multiple returns, self modifying code, and everyone rolls their own batteries
10:21:14_bilgus_I'm just going to disable for <= 2mb I think
10:21:25_bilgus_but yeah that sounds right
10:21:30speachyyeah, that's sane. oddly the c200v2 (also 2mb) succeeded
10:21:53speachyoh, fix the manual for <=2mb too.
10:22:04_bilgus_the last time I questioned how many were actually left in the wild (the clip has no sd)
10:22:20_bilgus_oh if its that close I might be able
10:22:29_bilgus_ah manual thanks
10:22:50speachyI wonder if it might be time to stick a fork in 2MB targets.
10:23:03_bilgus_I think so
10:23:19speachypre- or post-4.0?
10:23:37 Join ac_laptop [0] (~ac_laptop@2001:910:107e:0:56ee:75ff:fe00:97ac)
10:24:11_bilgus_probably post thats what we decided last time I think we just didn't think it was going to be 3-5 years
10:24:35speachyokey
10:28:26speachythough this one I'm interested in: g#1005 (plus the g#3026 improvements)
10:28:32rb-bluebotGerrit review #1005 at https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/1005 : added xrick game by Sebastian Leonhardt
10:28:32rb-bluebotGerrit review #3026 at https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/3026 : Bring xrick up to date by Moshe Piekarski
10:30:41_bilgus_I'm pretty sure I've tested that and it still had issues last time
10:31:58speachyfs#9260 looks gnarly. and could be responsible for some subtle issues we're still dealing with.
10:32:00rb-bluebothttps://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/9260 r18234 - core + plugins shouldnt be calling opendir() directly... (bugs, new)
10:32:09_bilgus_was that longer than 4 years ago? (probably)
10:32:26speachy(opened in 2008)
10:32:27_bilgus_^I saw that
10:33:03speachythe tl;dr: deleting (or adding) a file in a directory that something else is working with is a one way ticket to pain.
10:34:10speachyin our infinite free time I'd also like to see a rebuild of all bootloaders to pick up the GPT support I added
10:35:02speachyfor devices that boot from (or multiboot from) SD cards, it'll ease the pain of folks reformatting SDXC without repartitioning them first.
10:35:26***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
10:36:32_bilgus_I think we should do that and cull anything we can't find a device to test
10:37:24_bilgus_use that 4.0 releae to get the attention and notify everyone that we are decreasing our device coverage next
10:38:29_bilgus_then we can put the retired (old bootloaders) in a folder and leave them out of the builds
10:39:15_bilgus_re the opendir thing ignorance is bliss I guess
10:40:16_bilgus_I still get this 1:50 usb panic its so random I just need to do a test rig I think and plug unplug 500 x
10:41:05_bilgus_I have a clip+ I modified with a current shunt probably be my patient
10:41:41speachyI still need to finish unbreaking the x3's USB stuff. it broke in the usb control infra rewrite, and my last working-well-enough fix set now insta-panics.
10:42:12_bilgus_it was years with no stable USB in the clip's
10:43:46_bilgus_I'm not going to be able to finish that clip fix before I have to leave, I'll try a bit more to get it to fit and if not remove it for all the 2mb targets to save future grief
10:44:01_bilgus_tonight.
10:44:38speachyit fails on 2/3 of the 2MB targets. honestly I don't think it's worth the effort.

10:53:03_bilgus_I think I can remove the large tiles and logic for them nd it'll fit
10:53:17_bilgus_if not I'll nuke it
10:54:30_bilgus_I need to get an mRobe500 or something else that chipset
10:54:53_bilgus_the forum remote debug connection is too slow to do anything meaningful to get it to boot
10:58:57speachyprobably worth putting together a new list of who-has-what

19:21:04AlHazNo activity after bootloader install. To be honest, I was shorting the usb 5v and gnd at the time to get the thing to boot up at all.
19:21:36AlHazI have another that works fine, just, mildly curious, did anyone ever work out a BDM method of reloading the bootloader on those or is it just chip jewelry now?
19:21:59speachywelcome back. there are likely others here more knowledeable than I with respect to the Hxxx models. Mine was stolen in 2009. :D
19:22:47speachyyou know for sure a bootloader install bricked it, and not, say, old age of batteries/capacitors/etc?
19:23:39AlHazspeachy: It was hooked up to a good cameron-sino battery at the time, but had the issue where it always believed itself to be connected to a USB host unless you shorted the +5 and gnd lines on the usb port
19:23:50AlHaza good battery *and a gigabeat F power supply i should say
19:24:21AlHazIt did the firmware update stuff from the OF, blinked out, never to return
19:24:50AlHazI used to be a collector. I have a vast menagerie of mp3 players i never use anymore.
19:25:13AlHazToward the end my favorite was the sansa fuze but those things are so damn fragile.
19:25:19AlHazi don't think i have a working one anymore
19:25:50speachythat's funny; bilgus and I were just pondering how to test most of the targets given their largely unobtanium nature today.
19:26:06AlHazheh - like M:Robe 100?

19:26:57AlHazyeah that and the bottom of the lcd cracking. I bought large lots of broken fuzes for a while and pieced together probably half a dozen working ones
19:27:12AlHazI noticed some bugs i had been watching got closed recently −− got the email
19:27:22AlHaznot 100% sure where my mr500 is
19:27:29speachythe fuzev2 was probably my favorite device, thanks to the form factor and a real line out
19:27:49AlHazI don't know that i ever had a v2
19:27:50speachybut they don't hold up too well to abuse.
19:28:07AlHazI geeked out about the optical output of the h100 series
19:28:41AlHazi have a high-end dac that will run on a usb power bank, had dreams of making a sort of bandolier carrier for an h120, the y2 dac, and a headphone amp
19:29:02speachyI'd be curious how well the h1xx/3xx works with modern CF->SD and SATA adapters. ie additional dat points to the endless ipod snowflakes

19:31:50AlHazOne of my H320 had an mSATA to CE adapter with a CE to 44 pin cable, and it only sort of worked. Lots of lockups.
19:32:42AlHazordered an m.2 to CE ssd solution for ipods −− https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256801254729560.html
19:33:27AlHazThe one H300 wouldn't read it, so i wondered if the more advanced bootloader in the h100 could, but the one h100 i can find has issues with the usb/ata board. So i bought an h140 on ebay that just got here and seems to work.
19:37:10AlHaz4-5 months ago i visited a friend in Uintah county - where the "skinwalker ranch" hoax show is filmed - we went out into the oil fields at night in search of dark skies, and the soundscape is super eery. Hard to explain. rhythmic thumping from several directions at different but regular rates, explosive sounds from several directions at different somewhat irregular rates
19:37:43AlHazand i realized i have an old jvc hm-200e binaural recording headset −− big junky headphones with a mic on each side
19:38:13AlHazI have mobile recording rigs but they are super clunky. Be nicer to just use one of these early iRiver players

19:40:29AlHaz(SWR is horseshit. One family ran that ranch for 70 years and reported nothing out of the ordinary. Then some city folk lived there for 18 months, were afraid of every sound they heard and had no idea what predation looks like, then a con man who happened to be an old school chum of a senator bought it and got millions of taxpayer dollars to do bullshit "research" and he was the guy who called it "skinwalker ranch")
19:49:11AlHaz("skinwalkers" are basically witches in the navajo religion. The uto-aztecan cultures spanned from montana to mexico so the Navajo absolutely had Ute neighbors they may not have gotten along with, but the Navajo have a religious conviction to live near their four holy mountains, which are like a week's horseback ride from Uintah county, so no, there are no Navajo witches milling around SWR)

20:15:43speachyAlHaz: I've personally done a lot of work to improve the ATA driver for SSDs (be they real CF, the CF->SD junk, or mSATA)
20:16:28speachyI think some of the larger CF cards out tehre are actually SD/MMC internally with a bridge.
20:18:10speachybut with the current codebase, mSATA is expected to be generally trouble-free.
20:18:32speachy(assuming the iriver uses the generic ata driver anyway..)

21:54:43AlHazah, speachy left, but, generally my thinking was that since i can boot rockbox from rom on the h100 series, it might have a better shot at dealing with modern solid state storage than the h300 series
21:55:30AlHazI was dismayed to see that someone put in the work to bring the h300 bootloader up to par with the h100 bootloader, a few people said it worked, then they disappeared and a majority of reports now are that it Does Not Work
21:56:10AlHazmy working h320 has a 64gb CF card in it now.
21:56:30AlHazmy experience with cf-to-sd adapters has been largely negative
