08:01:52Xogiumcan we start immediate playback of a folder or file via the context menu in the file browser ?

09:22:56Xogiumdoes the cf card vs sd card on iipod in rockbox still holds some truth ? The fact that if you want the best integration possible your best bet is with cf card, because sd cards don't replicate the sata specs ?
09:23:06Xogium*on ipod in rockbox, rather
09:25:42Xogiumasking because I want to figure out what I should even get to mod this little device over here

11:26:22_bilgus_Xogium, I think not through the menu you just select a track in the directory
11:26:35Xogiumhrm, darn
11:26:45XogiumI prefer the file browser because it uses talk clips
11:29:14Xogiumoh well, I guess I'll just deal with the fact it'll play it next :D
11:37:58Xogiumalternatively, would something like this as storage be even easier to install/take care of than an iflash adapter ?
11:38:24Xogiumhttps://www.amazon.com/KingSpec-Yansen-Controller-Compatible-Compact/dp/B008NAI0YC?th=1
11:39:20XogiumI don't care much for the write/read speed, more about battery life and storage of course so I'd say I'm in the proper rockbox mindset :p

11:53:16chris_sXogium: Selecting "Playing Next..." and then "Play" does what you want. If playback is stopped, this will immediately play the tracks. If something is already paused or playing, the behavior depends on the "Keep Current Track When Replacing Playlist" setting. You may want to set it to "No", since it is "Yes" by default. The setting can be found in
11:53:16chris_sGeneral Settings -> Playlists -> Current Playlist. Here's the manual section for it: https://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch8.html#x13-1530008.2
11:54:57chris_sTo quote the manual: "If set to Yes, then Play and Play Shuffled in the Playing Next Submenu will allow the current track to finish playing before the new tracks play. If set to No, the current track will be interrupted and new tracks will start playing immediately."
11:56:37Xogiumahh thanks ! I had totally missed it
11:59:19Xogiumamazing
12:00
12:03:43Xogiumyou guys do a fantastic job
12:03:49Xogiumkeep it up ! :D
12:08:02chris_sregarding the storage: as far as I'm aware you can still expect to have the very best experience using a CF card, only disadvantage I see is their price and limited size. I think 256GB is the maximum available atm
12:08:37chris_sspeachy has done a lot of work to improve the experience using iFlash and an SD Card though
12:09:30Xogiumwell an ipod video 30 gb afaik can't do well with more than 128 gb
12:10:11chris_sI have a 1TB SD card using an iFlash adapter in my iPod video (originally 30GB)
12:12:29Xogiumhuh
12:13:03chris_sI think it's the iPod 6G that has that limit, but only using the original firmware
12:13:05Xogiumwell then I suppose the info I read was incorrect / no longer valid. I saw that some people had big trouble if trying to shuffle on rockbox with over 128 gb storage
12:13:27chris_sI have no experience with the iPod classic/6g though
12:13:29Xogiumone video I saw even showed the ipod crashing
12:16:59chris_sok, not sure why that would have been :)
12:17:20Xogiumran out of ram, apparently
12:18:54***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
12:19:47chris_sthe original firmware has a limit where it becomes unstable, but that should depend more on the number of tracks than the amount of storage (something like 32k tracks for the 32MB version, iirc).
12:21:18Xogiumwell, that is interesting
12:21:40Xogium1 tb is way too much storage for my use case but it's good that you were able to use it
12:21:56Xogiumso with over 128 gb if I ever wanted I should have no trouble
12:22:18chris_snot at all :)
12:22:43Xogiumit's also not like I'd boot the old ipod firmware if I wanted to use it, since that predates iOS and it doesn't even have a built-in screen reader let alone voicefiles
12:23:33XogiumI also need to find someone who could do the mods for me :p
12:24:20XogiumI could *maybe* open up the ipod on my own, but with no working eyes to speak of, I best avoid tempting fate and messing inside the device
12:24:40chris_s:p
12:24:57Xogiumespecially not for a battery replacement which I should *really* do
12:25:14Xogiumbattery on this one is definitely quite tired
12:25:31Xogiumlasts about 3 hours if that before reaching 30%

16:07:09_bilgus_couple outliers but I managed to get it down to around 200 bytes for most of the field pretty good since my first version was around 600
