09:05:07OlsroFRHello all ! I am very excited to share 2 new patchs with the community: https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6376 https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6375
09:05:44OlsroFRThe 6376 patch is to make finally the morse cheat sheet generating completely dynamic depending of the current used sysfont, so it will look always good even if the sysfont is different :)
09:05:57 Join dconrad [0] (~dconrad@152.117.104.232)
09:06:28OlsroFRThe 6375 patch is so the iPod Classics and Videos use larger sysfonts. I picked the same ones as erosq which are also 320x240 devices
09:07:10OlsroFRWith these 2 patchs merged, the morse cheat sheet will look great and very readable now on these high-res screens :)

12:09:05_bilgus_OlsroFR testing g#6371 the numeric menu is somewhat slower I'm guessing due to the extra processing
12:09:07rb-bluebotGerrit review #6371 at https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6371 : tagtree: "By First Letter" : fix numerical entry + add a "Special character" entry by Paul Sauro

12:14:48_bilgus_lets see how this goes..
12:15:49_bilgus_this is going to be a pretty big bin jump..
12:17:09OlsroFR_bilgus_ Yup. But I tested my code with my old ipod mini 2g, and all menus are still very fast, they loads in seconds on a library of 30 000 songs.
12:17:09OlsroFRI also tested the code with my iPod Video that has the 60 000 songs (interesting test here because the iPod Video has also a slow CPU). It can still load the special characters/numerical section in seconds.
12:18:03OlsroFRA possible optimisation would be to add some kind of special identifiers for numeric/special, by testing characters by ranges rather than from a specified (small) list, to reduce processing cycles
12:19:06OlsroFRall numbers are in the same ascii range, just like all A-Z characters, so it may be possible to do something like this. I will some research and push another patch if I can produce something good :)

12:21:15_bilgus_I tested everything I have building but checkwps and some of the app stuff might still die.

14:02:18OlsroFR_bilgus_ https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6377 Here is a patch ! The numerical entry should now be as fast as before
14:03:00OlsroFRI cannot do the same optimisation for the "Special character" entry unfortunately. I just reduced the parsing + used lower case letters to avoid conversion latter in strncasecmp

14:18:00Bubblegumdropthanks for all your hard work
14:21:18OlsroFR_bilgus_ Luckily I have 2 iPods with the same library of 60 000 tracks. A Video, and one Classic. Very useful in this case, I could test in both (one with old code, one with newer), to check for any regressions on the database. By building a playlist from a view, I could check that the count remains the same in both cases
14:21:59OlsroFRwith so much tracks fully tagged, it will reveal any edge-cases
14:22:55OlsroFRI did also multiple tests around the "Special entry" by adding multiple "?" to try to do multiple chained filtering, but I could not get the same count no matter what I've tried. But for the numerical entry, I got the same count, so I am very confident that it should not introduce strange issues, it's very unlikely this way
14:24:58_bilgus_OlsroFR, very nice I know there were some forum posts asking about functionality like this and the album stuff
14:26:23***Saving seen data "./dancer.seen"
14:27:01_bilgus_I think what I'll try to pare back some in the bin size is pre processing the get_tag string lists as INIT_ATTR and build up a string buffer at start-up that would allow me to get rid of the nulls and save the array presorted to do a binary search instead
14:27:38_bilgus_should be faster by a bit and hopefully similar code size possibly smaller
14:29:33_bilgus_basically by virtue of INIT_ATTR I can do some heavier processing and get to dump the functions / data structs when done

14:45:57OlsroFRallright
14:46:19_bilgus_he's more insightful than I anyway
14:46:29OlsroFRIf you want there's also these from today's work: https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6376 https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6375
14:47:00OlsroFRand https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6368 for +speachy
14:49:37_bilgus_I really don't have any thing to test for either of those sorry the morse thing Ive never used and no ipods
14:50:32OlsroFROh I see. I like the morse thing with iPod, it's such a pleasure to type characters like this compared to use the clickwheel as a keyboard
14:50:58OlsroFRit's more consistent, I use it often to do searches, but since I don't know the morse code by heart, I rely a lot on the cheat sheet
14:51:31OlsroFRand the characters were so little on the glorious "modern" 320x240 "high-resolution" screens
14:53:26_bilgus_I've gone after the keyboard in the past for similar reasons but the morse thing is built on top so it becomes a package deal
14:53:52_bilgus_and Igave up and added a way to do custom key layouts instead
14:54:22_bilgus_eventually i'd like revisit it
14:54:31OlsroFRmany things related to SYSFONT seems to be already dynamic. For example, the erosq is using the same fonts that I decided to enable in https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6375
14:54:56OlsroFRthe morse code related help was completely built with magic values with the 8px system font in mind
