#rockbox log for 2025-02-15

00:08:07_bilgus_hmm maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing..

00:14:16gnafuI just wanted to stop in and say how happy I am that Rockbox is active.
00:15:07gnafuI got the itch to get a new DAP after years of using my phone, amd the first thing I always do is see what's supported by Rockbox.
00:15:48gnafuI was pleasantly surprised to learn about the Eros Q and derivatives, and I'm now the happy owner of a Surfans F20 running Rockbox.
00:16:12gnafuThank you so much to those of you who work to keep Rockbox alive and fresh!
00:16:53gnafuMy last dedicated player was a Sansa Fuze, so it's been several years.
00:17:24_bilgus_good to hear if you can do paypal the infrastructure could always use $$ to keep it going
00:17:52gnafu_bilgus_: Thank you for that reminder!
00:17:58_bilgus_plus we ocassionally buy players to test with it
00:21:12gnafuPart of what sparked my interest in returning to a dedicated audio player was getting a pair of HIFIMAN HE400SE headphones. I got them on sale for $55 and they sound amazing.
00:21:41gnafuI wanted to dl them justice on a budget, and I knew Rockbox was the place to start.

00:40:18user890104https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/JztoolInstall.html#Option_1:_Using_the_web_45based_installer says that the web bootloader tool is not up to date. can it be updated to support EROS Q?
00:41:15user890104the web installer tool is here: https://github.com/amachronic/jztooljs/
00:43:04user890104I don't have any X1000 player to test with
00:57:36user890104the JS code looks like it's in sync with the latest commit on utils/jztool (cdee5284d46c913859bcb105bf3ea86bcbd6014f), so does this mean that only the bootloader binaries need to be updated?

01:00:53_bilgus_chris_s ok I see it, I guess I need to fix the caller instead

07:24:27speachyaaabbb: I don't know. actually, probably not. pretty sure the PMIC is fried (gets _reallly_ hot, not as bad with the original battery though)
07:25:49speachyuser890104: there's no need for the web installer for the erosq fwiw, we have pre-patched firmware binaries for download.
07:26:10speachy(for the native port I mean)
07:32:24speachy...With a replacement (Still ~10 years old) battery it gets _very_ hot, though the device seems to be using less current. dunno.

10:53:42chris_s_bilgus_ could set user_settings_crc to 0 in root_menu_load_from_cfg, but maybe that's a bit hacky, idk...

11:33:54_bilguschris_s, I considered it and I may if what I'm trying now doesn't work
11:34:39_bilgusissue is that the custom settings just have is_changed (from default) it doesn't actually say if it changed from last save
11:35:14_bilgusand they bypass global_settings and write to the cfg directly
11:36:59_bilgusWhat I'm trying to do currently is get the output of cfg_to_string() and add it to the crc
11:37:35_bilgusthat should allow me to check for changes without resorting to setting a flag or just blindly writing
12:00
12:01:40_bilgusthat appears to work well, I wonder if I should just do that across the whole swath
12:02:48_bilgusit probably x10 the processing to write the actual setting out and run the crc on it
12:04:01_bilgusI guess at that point you do it 2x so eh I'll stick to only custom settings

12:49:06_bilguschris_s the latest should take care of all the custom settings, If there are any other weird side cases they can get similar treatment
12:51:36_bilgusI think its run infrequently enough (and you end up doing many more ops during saves) but I didn't notice any slowdown on start or shutdown from scanning 8 custom settings
12:53:56_bilgusI do worry slightly that something gets missed due to the inherent limitations of CRC_32 so scanning over the generated setting string for all of them may actually be the way to go
12:54:18_bilgusrather than scanning the settings struct
12:55:55_bilgusthat said I did do tests on toggling every setting and verifying the crc changed, but that was before I added the custom settings and I don't have a way to even know every possible combo there
12:59:26_bilgusAlso Chris_S Sorry I didn't catch the custom settings the first time thru and Thank You for the diag.
