12:03:59HungryDazeHi! A question for devs. Can I become a beta tester for Hifiman HM-801? What is the best way to give you feedback? The are combability issues with newer builds.

16:21:52amachronicspeachy: I've heard you got an stm32h747 eval board. I finished my own stm32h743 design recently, and finally started porting rockbox to it. so I think I solved most of the cortex-m issues, although I can't test much of it yet.

17:12:09speachy_bilgus_: believe it or not I was looking at a different version. yeah, boneheaded.
17:13:21speachyHungryDaze: you don't need our permission, test away. we can't test what we don't have, so reports welcome
17:14:01speachyamachronic: sweet, I had meant to reach out and ask how that all was going. board arrived this afternoon as it turns out
17:23:25amachronicstrange timing lol. I'll get the patches up on gerrit tomorrow. one notable thing is that gcc 4.9 is too old to know about cortex-m7 so I used the 9.5 toolchain patch.
17:23:51speachydoubt that makes a meaningful difference wrt basic codegen, but eh
17:25:13speachybut back to meatspace stuff for at least the next few hours
17:30:48amachronicyeah actually, it should compile as m4 fine, just not m3 or lower
17:31:31Xogiumwell, why build for m4 when you've got m7 ? :D
17:32:23XogiumI still have my old f7 dev kit somewhere also, fwiw. If I can help in some way, somehow
17:33:18Xogiumf769, that is
17:34:53XogiumI'll say though, rather curious how touchscreen are handled if at all on rockbox when the person has to rely on tts to even use the device ? Like how do you avoid accidentally activating something if you touch it when you just want to browse the menu for example
17:35:39XogiumI'd reckon that without an actual screen reader it would be impossible to use a touchscreen-driven device
17:40:28amachronicthe default mode for touchscreens is to divide the screen into an invisible 3x3 grid and pretend those are buttons, so I suppose if you can hit the grid accurately it is technically 'usable' but it's definitely much worse than real buttons.
17:40:47Xogiumoh, that makes sense
17:40:54Xogiumyeah it's tricky for sure
17:41:22amachronicI don't know how the android/iOS screen readers work. they have some more advanced input methods using gestures and such as I understand
17:41:26XogiumI'd take the ipod classic's wheel over it, definitely
17:41:49Xogiumyeah so basically they replace a lot of gestures
17:42:59Xogiumswipe with one finger left or right doesn't scroll pages of the home screen for example, but from one icon to another. Single touch of an icon will select it without activating, announcing the name. Double tap will activate
17:43:02Xogiumthat sort of stuff
17:44:05amachronicso maybe not far off the rockbox method ;)
17:44:54Xogiumnop not too far, but much safer in that you can just swipe along or find an app or button without activating it on the first touch :D
