08:24:30speachyskrzyp: it's not the "iflash" adapters so much as the FC1307 ATA<->SD chipset they're built on. (that said, it's not a _hardware_ problem; this (along with of the other "features" in these things) is due to limitations of the firmware running on these adapters)
08:25:39speachyand "CF->SD" are the same, only with a different physical connector.
08:26:28speachyskrzyp: the small size of the X3 screen is annoying, but replacnig the smokey plastic with something translucent makes it a lot brighter for outdoor use.
08:29:21speachyanother thing to consider with opus vs flac −− the power usage of keepin the storage awake ~5x longer and the CPU slinging ~5x as many bits around when processnig the data. And the all of the analog stuff has to remain powered up regardless. The CPU is rarely the hungriest component any more.
08:31:50speachy(for example, on the xDuoo X3, I implemented dynamic reclocking, so instead of fixed 540MHz it would clock between 120 and 600 as needed. I think it led to something like 2% improvement (maybe 5 extra minutes)
08:32:02speachy(playing back mp3 files)
08:33:43speachyalso, size limitations with SD have nothing to do with the controller; it's just a dumb conduit for data in and out of the actual card.
08:34:55speachySD->SDHC->SDXC->SDUC is purely software (well, strictly speaking the higher _speed_ transfers require different hardware)
08:36:17speachyso to enable SDUC (ie >2TiB) support we "just" have to write the software to send the new commands with the larger address sizes.

09:36:26braewoods__speachy, so it's kinda like SATA in that regard?
09:36:45braewoods__Given how extensible SCSI tends to be.
09:36:58speachyin the sense that the physical interface is mostly indepedent of the commands being sent over? yes.
09:38:09braewoods__I see. I just wish there were more devices with native MMC hardware. There's times I wish I could use raw MMC commands instead of being limited to USB based options.
09:39:16braewoods__Like to utilize the MMC version of discard if I'm intending to reformat the card.
09:42:55speachyMMC is effectively just a wider (8-bit) SD interface.
09:43:43braewoods__speachy, do you know of any USB or PCIE sd card readers that show up as a MMC block device instead of a generic USB one?
09:44:41speachynot offhand.
09:44:50braewoods__Ok.
09:46:19speachywell, modern USB stuff supports UASP (instead of UMS) which enables a much richer command set; there's no inherent reason why a modern USB<->SD controller couldn't present as UASP.
09:59:19speachy(and translate the trim/discard command to the MMC equivalent)
10:00
10:01:49speachyIn other news, we're now at 100% coverage for 14 languages! (not counting English and its variants)
10:01:54speachythis is the best I've ever seen it
10:04:51braewoods__speachy, is UAS/UMS still the only way to access files for Rockbox?
10:05:03braewoods__I mean, did anyone work on MTP tat all?
10:17:54speachyUMS
10:18:08speachyand nope, nothing that was remotely ready for merging.
