But, it is also quite possible that they staticly just reserve 256K for the
software and have the rest (2MB - 256K = 1792K) pretty staticly used for
audio buffering, right?

I mean, wouldn't most of us do that to avoid the complexity of using a
dynamic size depending on the current mod size?
