I'm also having this problem. I bypassed it by upgrading to a 30gig
drive, and am currently waiting for a 2.5" ide adaptor kit to arrive,
whereupon I'll try to salvage data from the original 6gig which has the
I would be dissapointed if reformating was the only solution. I don't
know much about HDDs, but it seems insane that a powercut during disk
activity could somehow destory all data on the disk. I'm assuming that
once it's in my desktop machine, it should be fixable. Hopefully quite
easily, by running scandisk or the like.

All I really want to do is get the data off the disk (some of it wasn't
backed up), but it's not a great loss if that won't work. It would just
be very offputting, if I found that everything can be toasted by a
momentary loss of power.

I've have power disruptions to my computer during disk activity - no
problems, just restart and scandisk fixes any problem. I'm hoping this
will turn out to be similar.

I'll let you know what happens when my 2.5" adaptor arrives.
