Subject: [PATCH] Loudness, bass boost, configurable sorting

[PATCH] Loudness, bass boost, configurable sorting

From: Heikki Hannikainen <hessu_at_hes.iki.fi>
Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 12:18:02 +0300 (EEST)

  Hi,

Here is a patch against the current CVS code, enabling loudness and bass
boost on the Recorder's MAS 3587F chip. It also contains viewers for the
MAS registers, and the configurable case sensitivity in directory sorting
patch which I posted earlier.

  Known bugs (eg. features):

  - you can sometimes hear a little static when turning off or enabling
bass boost. I suppose the original firmware just keeps it enabled
at all times and just turns the effect strength to 0 instead of
    disabling it completely.

  - directory sorting changes only apply when a new directory is entered,
not when coming out from the settings menu to the CWD

There is some space for experimentation in the Micronas Dynamic Bass
boost parameters (the center frequency, amount of harmonics, should depend
on the earphones - maybe could make the center frequency tunable). I just
used the suggested starting point values which seemed to work.

The loudness code does not support enabling 'Super Bass' which would
shift the point of constant volume from 1kHz to 2 kHz. Doing this would
give us an amazing amount of four (4) ways to increase bass levels, which
would of course be good and k00l marketing-wise, but hey, get real! 8-)
And my Koss sport-a-pro's don't really need any, this code is here just
for completeness & the crappy standard earphones 8-)

  - Hessu
