You really *must* have some other problems than just 320kbit/s. Before I
checked in the latest mpeg.c fix I tested it with 320kbit/s and it worked
just fine on my Recorder.

Disk reading speed probably isn't the issue here, it might be the time it
takes for your HD to spin up. Can you get a feeling of how long it takes for
your disk to spin up before it starts reading?
