I was just thinking exactly the same thing. At the very least, all the crap that get's CC'd from sourceforge should /not/ be going to this list. It now accounts for a huge proportion of the traffic, and since it doesn't appear to be designed to be read on a list like this, it's hard to find the new stuff among the quotes. Now I just skip them and don't bother trying to follow them at all. I think they should be taken off this list, and if some people do want to get them by mail, another list could be created soley for that. It /might/ be beneficial to also split the list into more specific discussion groups, but in my experience that type of fragmentation is not beneficial, and people seldom stick to it (plus things get crossposted between all the lists a lot, further increasing uneccesary traffic). I don't actually think the *true* traffic levels are that yet high enough to warrant that, I just think we need to get rid of the superfluous notifications from sourceforge. If the list does get split, I would suggest splitting it into design (features, interface, etc.), technical (developers only) and support. That way there should be a very clear divide between the lists without the need for much overlap, and many people will only be interested in one or the other (a lot of lists split into 2 or 3, but almost everyone still has to subscribe to all 3 because they overlap too much!). - Robert Received on 2002-08-10 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
