I'm not an expert in electronic (nor in coding) and the "hardware
limitations" are probably due to the SH1 or to the lack of RAM but other mp3 players
like the m3po use the same MPEG-1 Layer-3 Decoder : the MAS 3507D and have
this feature and it's named :
"Variable playback speed possible without affecting pitch"

PS: if it's possible to implement this feature with the MAS 3507D it's
probably possible with the the more recent MAS 3587F too. But probably other
components are required...
