RE: MP3 Licensing change

IANAL, but it's my understanding that this doesn't affect Rockbox at all.
All the .mp3 decoding that takes place in the Archos is done by the DSP
hardware, not the firmware, so the charge for the decoding algorithm license
would be borne by the producer of the hardware, i.e., Archos.

Subject: MP3 Licensing change

I have a question - I browsed the archives but didn't see anything,
perhaps i'm a little blind today.

With the recent reversal of licensing for MP3 decoders, what
is the impact on RockBox?

Will there be an issue, or does the fact that the DSP does
the majority of the work cover any legal tangles?

If there is a perceived issue, will this spearhead any work
on OGG support, even though such a task might be extremely
cumbersome?

Thanks!
