No, you have to spin up the disk anyway when you start to read from a new
file. So you could read the settings file at the same time as that, and
store the settings as part of the file info struct.
If you kept settings in the playlist like you described, then you would have
to store them in RAM somehow, or maybe an offset into the playlist where the
settings are, and I could see that being a bit of a nightmare.
