On your first question - daily builds archos20020904 or later have RoLo. If
you load a version before that or an Archos file, you cannot perform a
firmware load.

To do what you are proposing, you will need to do some research.
1. Is the boot loader in masked ROM or external Flash ROM?
2. Is the program scrambled in Flash ROM?
3. What hardware setup is required before transferring to the application
program (the problem that delayed releasing RoLo, was that it wouldn't load
the original Archos Recorder firmware - the ICR needed to be set to a
non-default state).

As far as I know, these issues have not been investigated.

If you have the gdb mod, you could try dumping these sections to your
terminal program (no, I don't know what the addresses are) or when file
writes are available in Rockbox, you could dump the sections to a file,
disassemble them, and determine the best approach once you know how the
loader operates.
