I was one of the first to do the sound mod for the AJB, so I could really fancy this one !! Having removed many surface mount chips before (don't ask !!), provided you don't intend to re-use the chip an easy way is to cut the pins with a scalpel (or equivalent very sharp knife) and then remove what remains with a solder sucker. Should leave a reasonable surface for soldering the new part. Trying to unsolder every pin would be a nightmare.
