First of all, there's no way to peer two AJB Recorders via USB;
I suspect you already know.

But I like your idea to use digital SP/DIF I/O. One would have
to prepare a specially wired "cross link" cable with 3.5" stereo
plugs to interconnect two AJBs. It should be possible to send
raw PCM data directly through the MAS, so any data should be
transmittable -- maybe through a fail-safe transmisson protocol.

Think of it: It'd be possible for two AJB users to interlink
and exchange thier favorite MP3s. In some countries music industry
executives may shoot on sight at AJB owners then ;-)
