Wouldn't you be happier investing all this time and effort into a remote that could easily adapt to other devices. It may be trivial for you to mod the hardware if you have the skills/equipment required, but many RockBox users don't. And the more people you get interested in the remote, the better it will be - economies of scale and all that. As for the size, if enough people are interested in the black box cable approach, then there is no reason why it can't be produced using SMD and be very, very small - economies of scale again. You need to have a cable to conect your remote anyway - I doubt a small bulge in the cable would make much difference, and then your remote itself could be even smaller. Stu.
