Date: Thu, 14 Nov 2002 10:35:16 -0800 I also have a lot of ballroom dance music. The low-tech method I chose was to prefix the name with an indicator of the dance (eg S - samba, T - tango, VW - viennese, J - jive, etc), and I suffix the mpm at the end, though it probably makes more sense to stick it at front (eg have "T32 - Name Of Song" indicate a 32mpm tango). I also like the way this results in the songs being grouped by the dance, but I generally use playlists anyway. I haven't put on a recent rockbox ver, so don't have pitch yet - I had caught a hint that such a feature might be somewhere in newer rockboxes, and was really hoping it was a decent feature suitable for ballroom/practise. Your message sounds like it's exactly that. Time to upgrade! And to tell other dancers that they don't need to lug around a ton of CDs everywhere they go anymore, or keep stoppping to change dics, or spend five minutes hunting around for the track they're after but can't remember which CD or track number it is... Ugh, CD's suck. -----Original Message----- From: Michael Forster [mailto:forster_at_fmi.uni-passau.de] Sent: Thursday, November 14, 2002 9:52 AM To: rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se Subject: Show custom information in WPS Hi, I have a lot of ballroom dance music. These songs have two attributes that are essential for me: 1) The dance, i.e. waltz, rumba, samba 2) The speed of the music, i.e. bars per minute. I'd like to encode this information into my MP3s and have it displayed in the WPS. Of course there is an ID3v2 Tag "Speed" which I can use. I found nothing suitable for the dance. If I understand it right, Rockbox only supports these ID3 tags: Artist, Track Title, Track Number, Album Name. It is not important for me, which tags I use for my information as long it gets displayed. But I do not want to use any of the supported Tags, since I need them as well. Any ideas how I can achieve this? Should I try to patch Rockbox? How difficult would this be for me (advanced programmer with litte time :-)? Thanks in advance for any help, Mike P.S.: Congratulations to Rockbox. I really like it. Especially the pitch function is a "killer feature" for me. Thank you very much.
