Date: Fri, 20 Dec 2002 00:06:51 -0500 An update: I uninstalled the Archos Driver on my Windows box, and plugged the USB cable in again. Windows did its "found new hardware" bit, and this time installed different driver, so that now TWO icons showed up in the taskbar (in the system process list, I now had the original driver, TPPALDR.exe, and a new one, TPNTTRY.exe). I was now able to see the Jukebox as a drive in my Windows filesystem. I checked that I could read files as well as directories. I installed the .rockbox directory, ummounted, and tried again. At this point, the Archos claimed it was fully charged. Again, without the charger plugged in, the system immediately turned itself off after booting. With the charger plugged in, pressing "on" caused the Archos to go to the firmware boot screen, and them immediately go to the charging screen. (Perhaps rockbox has a different idea of charge level than does the firmware; of course, the FM recorder using different batteries than does the Recorder.) I plugged the USB in again, and now the device again was unrecognized. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and was able to see the Archos. I removed ajbrec.ajz and .rockbox, unmounted, and booted. Now I was running successfully under the 1.30j firmware, and I am now listening to the Jukebox playing an MP3, so all is well. The new driver is still running (it's listed as USB Storage Adapter V3 (TPP)), and I still have two icons in the system tray. I'll uninstall and allow Windows plug-and-play to its new hardware routine again. Any idea what's the "best" driver for Windows 2000 SP3? -----Original Message----- From: owner-rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se [mailto:owner-rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se]On Behalf Of rockbox_at_diffenbach.org Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2002 11:21 PM To: rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se Subject: RE: Wanted: FM Recorder owner Well, you've gotten your guinea pig. The results wasn't quite what I'd hoped. I have an Archos Jukebox Recorder Fm, with Archos firmware 1.30j. I loaded ajbrec.ajz to my Jukebox Recorder FM's root directory. I did not load the .rockbox directory. I ummounted the Archos, disconnected the USB cable, and turned the Archos on by pressing and holding the "on" button. The Jukebox booted, and they immediately turned off (as if the battery were too low to run); the battery level, prior to installation appeared to be somewhat over half-charged, judging by the original firmware's battery graphic. When I pressed "on", the Jukebox displayed the firmware 1.30j boot screen and gain turned itself of. I tried again after plugging in the charger. This time, the Jukebox firmware boot screen changed to the rockbox boot screen (?) with a graphical "Rockbox" logo, after the firmware boot screen's "progress meter" reach approximately 40% "done". The rockbox boot screen appeared to overlay a listing of my root directory; I could see, on the second screen line, the name of my alphabetically first directory. The top screen line contained icons I hadn't seen before, apparently rockbox style. At this point, no button did anything except the F3 button, which removed the "Rockbox" logo to show the first several lines listing my root directory, again with icons on the top line; and the off button, which if held for approximately 4 seconds, shut down the unit after showing the firmware "shutting down" screen. No other button appeared to do anything; I was unable to scroll the directory listing or anything else. At this point, I connected the usb cable to my Windows 2000 Professional build 2195 Service Pack 3 machine. The Archos displayed its USB screen, and the system tray hardware icon appeared, but the Archos was not recognized by the PC, with a "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" error, despite the fact that the driver (TPPALDR.EXE) was running. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the USB cable several times, ummounting (Windows lingo: "stopping") the Archos each time. The Archos was not recognized, even after a warm reboot (system shutdown and restart). This is where I'm at now: I can't get the Archos to start unless the charger is plugged in; I can't get it to respond to any keys except F3 to clear the boot screen and "off" to turn it off, and I can't connect to it via USB. Suggestions or better, solutions, would be greatly appreciated; any questions will be answered as best I can. --Tom -----Original Message----- From: owner-rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se [mailto:owner-rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se]On Behalf Of Björn Stenberg Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2002 10:11 AM To: rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se; archosjukebox6000_at_yahoogroups.com Subject: Wanted: FM Recorder owner Hi all. I've looked a bit closer at the FM Recorder firmware file from Archos and actually it doesn't differ all that much from "normal" recorder files - only the header is different. I haven't figured out all the fields of the new header yet, but from what I know I've created a Rockbox firmware file for the FM Recorder that I would like someone to test. There should be no risk involved, I expect it will either work fine (booting Rockbox) or, more likely, simply ignore the file and boot the Archos firmware from ROM. In either case, you can always remove the file from USB the normal way. The test file is available here: http://rockbox.haxx.se/fmtest/ajbrec.ajz After testing, please report the result either directly to me or to the Rockbox development list at rockbox_at_cool.haxx.se. Thank you in advance. -- Björn Stenberg Rockbox - Open Source Jukebox Firmware - http://rockbox.haxx.seReceived on 2002-12-20 Page template was last modified "Tue Sep 7 00:00:02 2021" The Rockbox Crew -- Privacy Policy |
