Date: Thu, 09 Jan 2003 14:19:33 -0600 > >> Are the Batteries full? yes, but anyway i have the AC adapter connected. i think i was wrong about my usb 2.0 port. now i think it is usb 1.1. actually, i'm still a bit confused which one it is. i thought it was usb 2 because it seemed so much faster than my computer at home, but i notice the speed difference only on "small" transfers (i.e. one directory or about an hour's worth of mp3's). the difference may actually be a result of having a better processor (p4 2Ghz vs. p3 500Mhz). i wonder if it would be faster to select the dirs individually for transferring, rather than selecting a batch... probably not. i'm getting approx. 1.1 seconds of transfer time for each Mb at work and about 1.4 seconds at home. but that 1.1 second time includes all the latency times when i guess it is buffering or something. i suppose none of this actually matters that much... after all, it *is* working. sorry for droning on and on... --bryce p.s. thanks for the tip about linux and the offer of sending the free CD's. that's generous. however, my connection is fast enough at home or at work so i can download the OS whenever i'm feeling brave and i have an extra 10 hours or so to search for each driver i need.
