RE: (Video) Backlight on recorder dimming? (Video)

Hey,

I have the video of my recorder dimming.

The avi uses DivX ;-) MPEG4 V3 codec
The mpeg is, well, mpeg.
They are the same clip, and are of equivalent quality/resolution.
The avi is 417,792 bytes long, and the mpeg is 2,273,233 bytes
long. If you can view the DivX 5 avi, go with that, else grab the
mpeg.

http://muth.cc/jukebox.mpeg

As you can see, one time the backlight just goes off, and the next time
the backlight will dim. Please not the way the backlight gets brighter just
before dimming.

Both of the times the backlight went off, were after my having momentarily
pressed the off button to turn the backlight on.

Here is a way to cause it to happen;
1) Turn on.
2) The backlight will some times go off, and others it will dim.
3) Momentarily press the off button to make the backlight come on and wait for it
   to go off.
4) repeat 3) and some times the backlight will go off and others it will dim.

The utter lack of repeatability makes this a bummer to pin down.
Can anyone comment on what controls the backlight?

Enjoy!
