I cannot imagine how this should work. Either the charging current is
switched on (and should charge with 200mA or so with 9V) or it is off
(then the batteries loose power).

Can you please connect your car adaptor, go to the debug menu and tell
me what it shows about charging? (You can switch five screens with the
up/down keys in the battery section.)

- Is the charger detected (plugged in)?
- Is charging "on" or "off"?
- Is the voltage graph really going up?
