RE: FM Recorder questions

I don't know about the FM recorder, as I don't have one myself. But the Recorder 20 (which I do have) has SCMS enabled by default; it must be turned off manually. This is done according to the instructions found here:

SCMS *only* affects the S/PDIF digital transfer settings, IIRC. It will never prevent you from copying files to/from the unit via USB. (This is mainly an issue with minidiscs and such - Sony is very big into "content protection".)

Since the instructions above pertain to both the Recorder series and the Multimedia Jukebox, I think it is safe to assume that the FM Recorder will follow the same pattern.

Please try it, and let us know if it works.

And thank you thank you thank you for reading the FAQ! :-)

Subject: FM Recorder questions

I have a couple questions about rockbox and the FM Recorder vs. the Recorder.

The FAQ says that the FM Recorder will probably not be supported by Rockbox, but some of the recent email suggests that it will be supported, and I would like to find out how feasible using rockbox on the FM Recorder will be, and what sort of support will be generated for this device.

Second, the Recorder seems to have the optional degradation copy protection as an option, but from one retail source on the net the FM recorder seems to have that copy protection enabled and NOT as an option. Can someone confirm this and will this affect my use of some mp3’s copied from another person if played on rockbox on an FM recorder?

Thanks for listening. Basically I am trying to make up my mind between the recorder and the FM recorder. I read the FAQ, have done lots of reading and research on these products on the net, and I thought it best to post these questions to this mailing list. I’m not a programmer (I’m a chemist), so I have tried to ask intelligent questions that I could not find the answer to elsewhere, if they seem simplistic I apologize in advance. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again.
