Sounds like its time for another "configurable" option. :-) I, too, like
the horizontal sliders.

Text labels are also a good thing, but one should have the ability to turn
them off. (Even Microsoft, the most anti-configuration company in the
world, has this feature.)

Just my two drachmas...

I like having both. I makes it look nice, and icons-only would puzzle me a
lot...

I don't. I think horizontal ones look better, after all the display is wider
than it is high.
