RE: Backing up HDD content

With the HDD prices being so cheap now - about $1US/gig - I think it's more
than worthwhile to keep a backup of my archos. Archos sent me a new JBR20
to replace my old one when it died - if I had not had my backup, I would
have been SOL for a *lot* of music, some of which I would have a hard time
finding again. (Oh, how I long for the easy days of Napster...) And with
the USB2.0 connectivity of the JBR20, it's quick and easy to keep them
sync'd.

Obviously, ripping is a whole lot faster now with our faster processors and
codecs, but it's still a time-consuming and cumbersome process. Spending
$125 on a new drive is more than worthwhile, IMO - that more than pays for
the time you would have to spend re-ripping your CD collection.

(Oh, and while near field monitors are nice, I think the *listening* sound
reproduction is better on mid-fields or far fields (depending on how much
bass you like. :-)

Hope that helps-
Matt

Subject: Backing up HDD content

[Not Rockbox related topic]

I was wondering, does anyone keep the contents of the Archos HDD backed up
on their computer? Or do you put all your music on the Archos and if it ever
fails, it just fails and you convert all your CDs to MP3 again?

So this really is a question of reliability of the Archos HDD.

I hardly play MP3s on my computer, although I have the best imaginable sound
system connected to it (M-audio Delta66 sound interface, fully digital
mixing desk, 2 near field studio monitors). So I thought about freeing the
HD space, so I won't have to get a new HD soon. Putting the 20 GB on CDRs is
hardly do-able.

I remember converting most of my CDs to MP3, averaging two or three a day,
letting the computer run at night. So it was about two months of work.

So what are your methods?
