I connected the drive to a PC first, before installing into the AJB, to
check the setting with an ATAPI tool, and of course to format it. Factory setting
was alread the quiet one. They are persistant, you have to set that only
once for the lifetime of the drive. Maybe there are smarter tools which can set
it across USB also, which are not limited to ATAPI devices on the IDE
controllers.

I don't know about Advanced Power Management options.
